The Free NRA Knife.

My late dad gave me an NRA Brous he received a few years back. That was the exception. All other slipjoints and such are 440A or 13Mov or similar I'm sure.

I got two of them (both identical; sorry no pix). First thought was "cheap Chinese junk". But actually, they're pretty darn solid and look to be well built. I was going to toss them but decided to keep them instead.

For the price I can't complain.

They're a political lobbying group. Their money mostly goes towards ads. The person that decided on the knife is a marketing person and probably not a knife person, and maybe not even a gun person. Their job is to make ads so you send them money so they can make more ads.

This is the NRA logo I'M looking for on a knife . . .

i sharpened one of these for a coworker last year - it took a very nice edge.
its no doubt an inexpensive promotional knife, and was marked 440 if i remember correctly

Of course the knives are cheap, they're sending out large amounts of them. I don't want any gifts, I just want the NRA to do it's job. And to people who have taken cheap shots on them in this thread, go to political or to whine and cheese. This thread is about knives, not political BS.

I wish they would just use the money to help gun owners and stop wasting it on gimmick knives and bags and hats etc. You wouldn't have to beg so much if you managed your money better.

The NRA called me a while back and the lady on the phone kept telling me so and so was gonna take away my freedoms and what not. If I were to renew my membership, Help Win The Fight, I would receive a beautiful folding knife. I asked her, first, who made the knife and second where was said knife made? She didn't know the answers but, bless her heart, I could hear her asking others in the background. No one knew. I figured China since the "range bag" I got from the NRA was made there. No Thanks and have a good day.

A friend of mine knows I like knives so he gave me one of these. I was not impressed and ended up giving it away to someone else. As far as the NRA, I was a member for years. I became upset after some questionable candidate ratings that shafted a strong supporter of the Second Amendment in one race and endorsed an anti-gun Democrat who went on to push gun control in another. It got me doing some research. I learned that the NRA had actually supported groundbreaking gun control multiple times throughout its history.

Before I joined, my father would always receive free gifts from them. Some knives, some flashlights, etc. They all looked nice but had terrible quality. I believe it's a marketing strategy that many charities use, such as receiving one page of return address stickers with your name on it from veteran's charities, or a nickel from a church fund raiser. It's supposed to work on potential donors' ideas of recipocating. Supposedly it has shown to increase donations relative to costs, but can seem petty to some.

In the end, if the strategy works, why not, and it could start the receiver looking into more serious aquisitions. After 4 really bad quality (but fancy looking) NRA free gift knives were re-gifted to me over the years, I decided to restart my knife collection after going many years without.

I was a member for 3 years. I must have got 150 gimme letters and calls in that time. I told them I would re-up for 1 more year if they took me off the "more-more "call and mailing list. They didn't and I haven't been a member for years.
As someone who has been a gun owner-hunter for 58 years, they certainly don't represent me or my interests.
I understand they're down $55 mil last year in memberships. Hence the join up and get a free knife thing? Maybe their politics?-- KV

The NRA is a political organization. If you don't want to talk about politics, don't talk about the NRA.

There is a subforum here for politics but you better be of very conservative bent or you will likely get piled on by members and mods. It seems about the same 12-15 posters on there all the time.--KV

Its a 19.95 dollar value ( dubious ) but made for 5 cents. I'm sure it only costing them less than a dollar to get in bulk so a usa buck would be out even if its a cheaper buck, because the margins are a lot smaller.

I can't fault them for good marketing though
