I have been doing some research on the American frontier and the men who opened it up. It was truly an awe inspiring undertaking. My father grew up in the southwest and loved everything about it. My grandfather cowboy-ed all over the four corners area. As a result of these I decided to come up with a western style knife.
Its a clipped point design with a rounded "swedge". it has a straight spine for scraping and a very fine tip. there is a nice belly to the blade and a straight section for carving and slicing. It has a saber grind. It was ground to .0020" for a good cutting profile and a sturdy edge. It's made from 1/8" O1 tool steel. Overall length is 8 3/4" with a 4 3/8" blade.
The handle is made from an exotic wood called Katalox. It is dense and very pretty wood. It is lined with white G10 , and pinned with 3 1/8" nickel silver pins. All the components are bonded with Acraglas. It is a gun bedding material with excellent water resistance and bonding properties that surpass most epoxies.
It is shaped into a generous round shape that is balanced at the index finger to reduce hand fatigue and hot spots.
The sheath is made of 6-7 oz veg tanned leather that was dyed saddle tan. I wet formed it to the knife for a snug fit. It was sealed with atom wax and coated in Obanauf's. All edges are hand stitched and sealed.
