The G.O.A.T.S. of EDC knives

What makes a knife EDC is how you use it. Just what makes one a GOAT depends on your point of view. Chris Reeves makes knives to die for, but there aren't that many around and most non collectors want something lighter for EDC.

The Kizer Gemini, designed by Ray Laconico, remains one of my all-time favorites. There have been a bunch of different variations released over the years. Here are two of mine.

As phenomenal as Chris Reeve knives are, I still wouldn't put them as the GOAT's of EDC. For that fact that you mentioned - there's not that many of them around. And most people who do have them, either keep them as safe queens, as they are usyally grails of people's collections.

People on this forum are exceptions. There's plenty of people out there who just bought or got gifted one good quality knife and are carrying it for years, most of them probably don't even know that this forum exists.... just an example.

CRK are no doubt one of the best knives you can buy, but vast majority of people will never buy one. Personally, probably me too. As I can get decent folder, and small fixie and large fixed blade, all under the price of one CRK...

I don't have one but would suggest the Buck 110 and the brand in general would be a good contender.

Spyderco is more recent and as a brand they might qualify in popularity in more recent decades. My first was a Delica.

Pocket folders like Shrade, Case etc might qualify for sheer numbers.

Of what I have and carry? Victorinox SAK. In my case the Trekker and Alox Soldier.

And everyone should have a SAK 😁.

Well said. Carried a SA more than anything else over the years. A Tinker then a Alox Pioneer. Growing up, we thought if you could have a Swiss Army knife in the zipped sleeve pocket of our bomber coats that was all the rage. We played a lot of games around a creek in the fall and winter and pretended we were downed airmen avoiding enemy patrols, we watched a lot of Hogans Heroes and Rat Patrol, all reruns of course.

Now basically a Buck 112 Slim select….and I was fond of my Opinel #6 for a long time too. So the GOAT was the one with the greatest utility and ease of picking up off the dresser. Now I am also loving the BUCK 112 with finger grooves, the weight is heavy but it just has such a solid feel, a classic.

Edit: I have a Buck 112 coming in micarta and brass and a Magnacut blade, finger grooved too, told it may be a little lighter than the standard 112.i went with it rather than pre order the 112 heritage elite slim.

I treat all the ones the same. That's how I keep the harem together.
Yes, that made me laugh, but I have heard it said ( just heard and not that I said this ) that eventually they would become jealous of each other and who would be the favorite….and try to make it to #1, that also does happen with knives. Which one should I pick to carry today? 😀 That’s why I think we develop a rotation for EDC.

Somebody give this man a CRK! Honestly though the only CRKs I have in my collection are there because of their birthdays. A unique that was born on my daughter's first, and a PDW that was born on my mother's birthday the year she passed. For CRK money I'm getting LG or Spartan all day 😁
