Ok another post with qeustions. Does anyone use the General for anything? Christmas is a coming and make a huge wish list to give folks.

Of course the 120 gets used around here! Hawkeye Jeff is a big proponent as am I. I usually prefer the 124 or 119 for specialized tasks but the 120 fill the niche nicely when I am in a situation where one knife may have to pull the double duties of each mentioned above! The General fits that role well.

Thanks. I'll add it. I figure if I have a wishlist of a bunch of Bucks I might get one. What do you use yours for?

KYhunt, I agree with GD526, Yes you should add it to your list.I used my 120 last weekend while deer hunting in the Texas Hill Country. It is a little long but I like the handle and it take care of all the cutting chores that I need.
Get one you will love it too.

Hey KY!
Like Jeff, I have used mine for deer and 'general' woods bumming. Not much a 120 can't do. Camping chores fall nicely under the 120 as well. Loads of service men used 120s during the 'Nam ordeal too. Typically, the 124 is my ultimate and the close second is a 119 as a generality, but the 120 can be a wonderful compromise between the two!

ok I appreciate the impute. I just got a coupon from Cabelas for $15 off a $50 up item. They have the 120 for $59. So that would make it $44. Forget Christmas I think I'll order one.

Back in 69 I couldn't afford a Randall #1 and got a General at the local department store. It was stolen and bought another one in 71 and still have it. I've gutted deer with it and use it for odd camp chores. I sleep with it when I am camping and recently I used it to baton down a large plum tree, branch at a time. I have a very nice stag and brass Randall #1 and two Effie BJ #1-7's but the 120 is still the one knife I'd never get rid of.

I bought a Cabela's 120 before my latest 119 - then lucked into BR models of the 120, 119, 105, 103, & 102 for my display stand. That 120's box was damaged in shipping, so it had to be relegated to a user's life - sad, huh? The basic 120 - and 119 - have seen some yard usage around here, but now reside where they definitely see some use - in my kitchen. They reside, sheathed, in the drawer with the spare dish towels - where I know they are - and I am the cook. The 120 may ride over to the in-laws Thursday - they'll have a big bird begging for it's use. Besides, they already think I am a loon... especially after bringing out my then new 419 Folding Kalinga Pro at a Christmas party last year to trim some ham.

There is always the prospect of displaying the 120 as a pigmy's broad sword.

After looking closely at the 120 and 119 I have another qeustion. The guard on the top does it get in the way with as far as it sits up?

Ok. I'm going to have to either get me a 120 or 119 this week. Leaning toward the 120.

i jus luv that Special.
119 is primo as far as i m concerned.
its perfectly balanced and the General seems pretty strange with a longer blade to handle ration.
but that's jus my opinion.

I really like the 119 and have a few of them.

However, if I were you I'd get the 120. The 120 is discontinued from the Buck catalog and is only currently available from a few of buck's retail dealers as a special order item. If those dealers cut it out of their inventory you will only be able to get one after market.

The 119 is still a Buck catalog item. It is available every where and at a very reasonable price. You can get a 119 any time.

Ok, the above being said....you can and will be able to pick up ether one of these models on ebay any day. You will not go wrong with ether one. I think you should buy both and post photo's of them.

I used the 119 a lot more in the yard - and in the kitchen. The black phenolic handled one is $34 at WallyWorld, a real deal. I have seen it's 'dress-up' version, the 119BR in brass pommel & finger guard and wood handle, mail-order & evil-bay ~$60. It's the same steel blade - excellent for use and easily re-edged (I use a Spyderco 'Sharpmaker'.). The only place that seems to carry the 120 now is Cabela's mail order (and stores) - $60 in their 'Pro Line'. It's novelty makes it neat. I think slicing turkey breast meat - or a huge roast - might be easier, too with the 120. The 119 is no slouch, that's for sure.

Another great knife for more 'bushcraft' uses is the 192 Vanguard. It has a great finger guard - nice grip/great feel, as does the 119. I have seen folks 'customize' particularly the upper part of the 119's guard, which is fine as is for me.

I have the 192 in s30v that has seen alot of use. Its making a trip to Buck for resharpening.

I must be the exception. I've had one for 40 years, a present from my grandfather, and that's the only reason it's still here. I've never found a job a smaller knife wouldn't do just as well, except possibly chopping brush...but I have bigger knives for that.
