I am blessed this year, with a loving fiancé and family and today being my birthday I have received quite a few awesome gifts. I realise as I get older that one of the greatest gifts we can get is the joy of giving to someone else.

So today I'm giving back to this wondrous forum and all the fantastic people in it.

The rules are: you have to have a minimum of 100 posts in traditionals, and if you enter it would be great to hear of a birthday experience of your own.

The winner will be picked on April 7th, my grandfather's birthday, which fits as it was him and his knife that brought me here in the first place.

The winner shall receive...

A surprise gift!

Thankyou all for your contributions to this forum and a Happy Easter!

First of all- Happy Birthday kind Sir!

Secondly - a massive thank you for being [art of what this Traditional place is all about - great folk who look after each other and now and then do what you do - and that is give.
I am just popping in to say thank you- I get pretty well looked after here as it is so I will step aside but pay tribute to you for being a thoughtful & Generous person - Cheers!

This one is easy. My most memorable birthday was my 13th. Two weeks prior, my Dad had been hit broadside in a Suzuki Samari. He didn't have a seat belt on and went the the hospital. He was in rough shape and we were asked to come to the hospital so he could see us, looking back now, perhaps they thought the worst. On my birthday, two weeks later, my father and friends were at my house for a surprise birthday. When I realized that my dad was home, that was the most amazing experience. At that point it wasn't about the birthday party.
Take care,
Josh

Thanks for the give away.

My most memorable birthday was the day my mother and dad gave me a 16 ga. Remington Sportsman 58 shotgun. I still have it and it still works as good as ever.

I'm in! Thanks:)

I don't really like birthday parties, but the most memorable one is from many years ago when I was probably 6 or 7. I came home from school and my parents had a surprise party set up for me and it was one of those that was just "perfect" in every way. I'm 30 now and its still fresh in my mind as the day it happened.

RR, I feel blessed every day, but of course some days are more special than others. Thanks for the love and the chance.

I've been a hunter since I was 8 yrs old, first with shotgun then at 16 with rifles. But my dad never had a handgun, and I couldn't wait to shoot one. So on my 21st birthday I drove straight to the gunshop and bought a Ruger New Model Blackhawk in 45 Colt. Back then it came to $141.26, tax included. I brought it home and made my own holster for it.

I'm in. Thank You for the chance.

It was not my birthday but my Grandfathers that was a great experience. It was my Grandfathers 90th birthday that my son was born on. We did get together that summer and celebrated both "birthdays"

I'm in. Thanks for the paying it forward.

One of my most recent birthday memories is of my father inlaw giving me a case medium stockman 032. Its one of my favorite case knives. I had it on my wish list, but its the first one anyone outside my wife and a few close friends/family (that know I'm a knife nut) that have given me a knife.

I'm actually carrying it today. Partially due to a certain individual that brought up some back patting on the porch...........it actually made me want to carry a great Case knife. Not sure that was his intention....but I'm happy now....not sure he is.

Hope you have a great birthday!

Jim

I just had my birthday on March 30th, some pics from my birthday weekend in Carl's Lounge :)

Good luck everyone, and enjoy the rest of your birthday RR

Happy Birthday to you and to me! Yes today is my also my birthday. I was born 64 years ago today. A great birthday experience for me was when I turned 16. Dad & I went and bought my first car...a 1957 Chevy. How I wish I had that car today!

I'm in. I've had some good birthdays, but when it falls on Thanksgiving is the best because that's my favorite meal. Its also good because I don't want the day to be all about me, I'd rather just have a good time with the whole family and see everyone happy.

Happy birthday!!

Happy Birthday RR! One of my best birthday memories (especially appropriate since this is the traditional forum) was receiving this Buck 301 from my Grandma for my 15th birthday in 1970. This coming Thanksgiving will make 45 years I've owned it. I carried it for years, but I don't carry it often anymore for fear of losing it - it's one of my most prized possessions. OH

Happy Birthday, RaptureRaptor, and thanks for sponsoring a give-away!:thumbup:
I'm getting too old to handle the suspense of waiting to find out what the prize is.:p:confused: Good luck to everyone!

I've never celebrated my birthdays very much myself; don't know why not. I certainly remember my 16th birthday, though. After school, I didn't have to help milk the cows or do my regular chores, because my Mom took me to the county seat where I could take a driving test and get my driver's license! That night, believe it or not, my parents let me take the huge 1965 Dodge station wagon 60+ miles round trip, all on my own, to a school basketball game! Oh, the freedom I enjoyed on the way to the game, cruising down the road and singing along to the Beatles' "Hello, Goodbye"! Oh, the anxiety I felt on that December night on my drive home after the game, as a blizzard rolled through! My parents trusted me far more than I trusted my own 16-year-old daughter about 35 years later.

I'm in.

I am a Christmas baby. Well close enough. The 21st. So I never really had birthday parties. Everyone is always gone/traveling. Me included. I spent 14 years of my life on our hunting lease for my birthday. And those years are my favorite birthdays. Exploring with my brother and cousins and spending time with my Grandpa before he passed were times I will never forget.

I'm in and thank you.
Happy Birthday to you and your grandfather, wherever he is.
The first birthday of mine that comes to mind is when I got my Official BSA sheath knife by Western. Finally they let me have a fixed blade, probably after I made Lion.
The best birthday ever was my Mom's 90th last week.

I'm in, thank you!

My first knife was a gift from my Dad on my tenth birthday. A camillus scout, I believe. Wish I still had it.

Happy Birthday!
My wife threw a surprise party for my 40th, and both my sisters and their
families were able to make it! I was overwhelmed by how many people were there
overall. It was a great blessing.

I'm in! Thank you, and Happy Birthday!

I guess I'm kind of an odd ball in the sense that when I was younger I enjoyed friends and loved ones celebrating my birthday, but as I got older I discovered in my travels alone, I enjoyed doing for others on my birthday. Each year, my family knows I'll take off and just have a day to myself. Quiet, and self-reflecting. I don't feel it's necessary for my friends and family to do for me, as I know they are all busy. Instead I usually buy a few meals for strangers, and maybe a few drinks as well. I always get amazing stories from the people I meet and come away knowing I haven't put a burden on anyone, but instead gave to others. That is always my gift to myself.

Again, I know this is not traditional, and many people don't understand it, but several I've encountered get it.
