Hello the Porch,

As you know I always try to show you a few pictures of the various knife-shows we have in France but usually I use pictures I find on the forums. I'm not a great fan of the crowd.

This time it's not really a knife show because it's only dedicated to my great friend Gigi Sechi who is my neighbour when I'm in holidays in Sardinia 😁
Here are a few of what he recently made . Later I will move these pictures on his thread.

What a great craftsman!

I love them all but prefer without Damascus they are so beautiful they dont need it.

I had hoped to get to Sardinia this year, its still possible I can but hope.

I believe that GIGI produces all his own Damascus that he uses in his knives. My only Damascus knives are Gigi Sechi knives - one of the bonuses of having one of his knives is these unique patterns of steel. Otherwise, Johnnythefox Johnnythefox , I usually respond to laminated blades the same as you. I make the exception for Gigi.

The damascus on that Dagger is stunning.

Exactly!

Hello Christian, two reasons explain this quantity of knives.
First Gigi is a real hyperactive man. From September to May he forges or makes knives almost every day. Which at 74 years old is a good way to maintain good health. No need to add he cultivates a large plot of land with fig, pomegranate, plum and grape trees. I wonder if he hasn't been working more since he retired from the army. 🤣
The other reason is there are 6 or 7 knife-shows in the whole island from June to September. So he wants his table to be well-filled for these occasions.

I wish I had Gigi as a neighbor. My resolza has become unacceptably loose. I know how to tighten it (theoretically at least), but I am afraid of marring the pin.

Hey Christian - maybe you've read this but these attached photos were from Davide Steri about loose pins ~

I did this in my vice several times. I used small old brass hinges as my vice cheeks - simply taped a side of the hinge leaf to the sides of the vice.
The 4th photo is critical - the pins need to be horizontal to the vice cheeks - not tipped or you could skew the pins. Otherwise it is as easy as squeezing the pins in the vice. Sneak up on it. A little pressure 2 or 3 times is better than one big squeeze, until you get the tension you prefer. Summer and a humid climate will require a bit less pressure than during the dry/heated winter.

I have my own photos and a process description in one of the past Sardinia knife posts if you care to look.

EDIT - I found that PIN TIGHTENING LINK - These photos and a few of my own further down the page.

Thanks Ray. I am going to wait until this winter before I try tightening my knife. Last winter it was excessively tight. Now it's dangerously loose. I'm afraid if I tighten it too much during the summer I may be unable to open it during the cold season.

I don't know where you live but here I would think that summer would be optimum for tightening. If it is loose now, when it should be at its most expanded from summer humidity, I would think it better to tighten now, as it would likely ease up a bit through the winter dry/ heating season.

At the least that's how it would be in Maine on the mid-coast with summer humidity and winter dry. If you live in AZ - I have would not care to venture anything other than a wild guess. All the best whenever you give it a go.
