The Girl's got grit!

Audra,

Glad to hear that you didn't get injured too bad
smile.gif
You've got some nice looking work there too.

I had this funny feeling that you and Mike probably lived somewhere in Wyoming. I seem to recall seeing a picture of either you or Mike in either Wayne Goddards new book or in "Knife Talk". Turns out that I am originally from Lander
wink.gif
Folks still live up there so I visit often. In fact will be up in two weeks for my sisters wedding.

Anyway, good look on your ABS test. Maybe I'll catch you guys poking around over in Riverton sometime

VG, Thanks for the tip on the vitamin E, Too bad the Dr's fit and finish requirements aren't as stict as the ABS requirements for Master rating. Mike about cried last night when I showed him the job she did stitching me up. He says she must have graduated from the Frankenstien school of stitchery.. ( with honors!)
smile.gif
I am thinking super glue! Probably wouldn't hold! Oh well, I don't think Mike loved me for my hands!? We'll see?!
Hey Justin! If you are going to be in Lander or Riverton, Give a call, or come on by the shop and well give ya the 25 cent tour!
Well, to ya all. Today went pretty well considering.. I difinitely took my time with everything! Really feels better than it looks!
Damn! Rob, you must be tough! Although, I think I could have stiched mine up pertier than she did! Left handed! See ya in Atlanta. Audra

Audra,
Davy Davis, just sent me an E-mail asking if I heard you were hurt. No details on what happened. I hollered at my wife, and told her, and then headed over here. We were both very worried. Now we are both less worried, and even more proud to know you. Dian and I both thought you were pretty tough, now we know you are. Keep your wound clean, and it will heal up pretty.

Mike,
Thank you for posting this. I look forward to seeing what you have been working on too. People don't realize that you to are a knifemaker. That's a shame, because like Audra you too are a great knifemaker.

Davy,
You kind of scared me. Thank you for pointing me to this thread.

OOOOOUCH!!
It's amazing how the simplest machine in the shop can be the most dangerous.
The feeling of a blade being ripped from your hand and the sound of it boucing off the walls and floor is quite an experience!! I have looked at my hands and counted fingers on several ocaissions!!
I'm sorry to hear about this but glad that it was only as bad as stitches.

I tripped over my dog a couple of years ago and rammed my arm through a plate glass table.

So what's the moral? Don't drink with the dog in the house? Don't drink with the dog? Don't drink in the house? Don't horse around in the dog house?

Audra, Mike and Tom, keep some extra strenght Anbesol around and pour in the wound and let get numb, then sew away! However the stuff we used to have on the ranch worked better, real Novicane, ask Ed Fowler, he can get some good stuff from his vet for you. Also get some cat gut, thin stuff, the kind you use for sewing up an eyelid for like pinkeye, works great for humans. Do not give your self a shot of LA 200 though, its for 4 legged critturs!

See you day after tomorrow!

Audra, I'm sure you're going to do great with your blades. They look fantastic.

Your biggest problem lies ahead, however. Last year, the week before the blade show, one of my grinders broke while I was changing belts (tensioning spring let go) and ripped a chunk off the palm of my left hand. Oh yes, it hurt. And making the last couple knives wasn't a lot of fun, but the worst part was having to walk into the Show with my left hand all wrapped up in a huge bandage. MAN! The grief I took from my friends and fellow knifemakers about my booboo was much worst than the injury. Did they laugh? Nah! They roared! They pointed! They snickered! They giggled!

This year, I have been especially careful to avoid repeating that mistake. My advice is to keep the bandage as small as possible. Bleeding to death would likely be preferable to what I had to go through.

Good luck with the tests. You're a lucky man Mike.

Hey, thanks guys!! Good advice Rob! If I had only known!
I have all the test blades finished! The last one lacks a little in the art department! Simple hunter!
I don't know about this bandage thing!I wanted to have the stitches out but, not till Sunday!
I figured I could get away with no bandage at all. Mike says better not, someone might shake my hand!(make me cry)

NOT!
Well I leave for Casper tonight, I will see ya in Atlanta

I'll be the really nervous Gal friday morning waiting for the news from the judges. Audra

Audra, sure glad to hear that your accident wasn't to serious. I just wanted to drop you a note to tell you that I just had a very similar accident. I was polishing a hunting blade with a deep guthook and guess what, it caught in the wheel. Came around a hit me on the left thumd and broke it in two places and split the area between the first knickle and my nail open all the way across. Just went to surgion today and said it looked like I would not need it cut on. You take care and watch out for those buffers, you said we have to keep working on knives. We just have to be more careful. Good luck and hope you heal soon.

yes rob...i live on the north shore and know well the value of needle and thread, have been sewed up by my friend so i could paddle out and go surf some more on more than one occasion, once by my vet when it looked nasty..hope i didnt offend the drapers with my comment...it was a joke as im sure you all know....to be a real knifemaker, you need a frontal lobotomy.....how else could you stand in front of that machine and grind knives all day???????????

Well, after all that, what's the word from the judges? We expect its positive, and she made MS, but don't leave us wondering!

Audra, actually the Vitamin E thing can be applied for weeks afterwards. My scar even tans. I can't be certain but I think that the Vitamin E had something to do with it. I'd cut both my elbow and my hand, the elbow being the worse of the two, I only used the vitamin E on that.
The hand scar is quite visable while the elbow scar is somewhat subdued.
Thought I'd pass it along.

Old Soldier, I wass sober, Mr. Wisenheimmer!

I was shooing Cody outta my way when he decided to stop short and I kep going. Of course I didn't want to hurt the poor 160 pound beast, so I deflected myself towards the table. Come to think of it, I don't have much luck with dogs..... got up in the middle of the night a few years back to hit the head, and Sig had decided to sleep in a new spot. I tripped over him, smashing my toe into the wall. Smashed the bones, needed a pin put in it.
Sig laughed.
Good thing I don't keep knives as pets!

Off to search for pet alligators since if they hurt me, I can make shoes outta them,
I remain,
VG

Not only does she have grit.
She is as of this morning the first ABS Master Smith of the fairer sex.
Congratualtions Audra.
