History of the Gladius Sword:
The Roman Coliseum was a massive three-tiered architectural marvel, that has been the center of Roman myth and culture for almost 2,000 years. Ancient Rome was gracious and civilized, yet at the same time, it was built on such blood and savagery. The two main sword weapons of Imperial Rome were the 'Spatha' and the most well known, the 'Gladius'. The Gladius was used as a stabbing weapon. This was the standard infantory weapon of the Roman Legions. A shorter sword with a wide blade, double edged with a sharp, strong point, this is the sword that conquered most of the known world.

Shop Details:
5160 Steel Blade was cut out and Normalized @ 1500 degrees until non magnetic, three times, to remove stresses and align crystals. Heat Hardened until blade became nonmagnetic, then quenched in 125 degree quality oil. Tempered the blade to a straw hardness @ 425 degrees for 1 hour, letting it air cool and repeating once more. Blade was file tested and is shown to be very hard.

I can't tell you how much I love these swords you're making
I'm in no position to buy one right now. Would you be able to take custom orders like these in the future?
John

JFO Iwould be glad to make you whatever you would like when the times right for you . Just stay in touch . thanks panchO

probably my favorite one so far. It looks like you took the grind all the way to the center line.

Yes sir I did . I hoped it was visable with it being black I new it would look like my grind was 1/2 inch .

looks like a blade notch. If I am correct. That guard is wood, with no metal (some have a metal plate on the top of the wooden guard). The notch is designed to stop another blade from sliding down the sword, and going through the wooden guard and removing all your little piggies.

(correct me if I am wrong).

I have seen them on swords, and knives. (If I was an actual gladiator or roman soldier I would like the notch further down or a second notch).

Let me say again, I am really glad to see the grind lines on this one.

Yeah, you are wrong but also correct that some knives have "spanish notches" (which are much different) A Gladius does not.

It looks like a stress riser, which could be dangerous to the user.

You are not wrong Mr big. It was ment to stop the blade . Rather help stop another sword coming down your blade bronz or steel for that matter were not wasted on gladiators weapons so they didnt always have bronz or steel ontop of the guard.

Archer,

Why does clicking on your knives portfolio trigger Virusscan warnings?

Hmm. You got me. I get hits on this vid every day from other forums, youtube users, and search engines, and have not had any or seen any reported problems. I haven’t seen anything in my google analytics (click tracking). The hits shown yesterday show a low bounce rate (people aren’t bouncing out fast), with an average 4 to 5 minutes. I just clicked it and it went to it no problem. Sorry you had trouble getting to it. Chris

I'm surprized this is not sold yet! Good job.... A bunch more of those notches would look badass I think.. and as long as you're careful on the heat treat, I dont see a problem. How is the tang fastened to the handle? Keep making these!

Rick

Thanks bro!

I'm not sure if this is the correct way, but this is the way I fastened the handle to the tang. The guard and the handle I drilled straight down the center. In the butt, I drilled in a fastener that is female threaded from home depot. They screw in with an allen wrench. Then I threaded the end of the tang and then filled everything up with epoxy risen, slid everything down the tang, while everything was dripping :D. Ended it by screwing on the butt. Then when it dried, it was solid as a rock.
