Folks, It's a true statement... What goes up must come down. Am I the only one here on BF that recognizes the the secondary market on GEC is becoming more realistic? It seems that folks need money and now are willing to part with their GEC's at a substantial fraction of the value percieved just a few short months ago ;) I suppose many have their hands in their PJ's at this point wondering wether values will go back up.......... Have fun all..TD

I don't know if they are or not I am not in that market, but notwithstanding the outraged denials that are sure to appear in this thread, eventually the prices WILL come down. The next shiny thing will come along and the speculators will go elsewhere. Here's your beanie baby.

This post is about two years old and I don't see a significant reduction in asking prices. The question is are these prices being realized ? On occasion I'll wishlist some of the items just to see if they are moving.... mostly not. It's incredible to me to see dealers asking 5 times the retail price for knives (GEC) that are about a year old. I started early so I'm more amused than frustrated. It's amazing to see the market forces at work, but like I said - are these knives actually being sold for $ 300 - $ 1000 ?

some might, its difficult to say. the stuff from the earlier days are scarce since runs used to be smaller, some are perennial favorites, and some have cult status and some folks simply just have deeper pockets. c'est la vie

I have noticed asking prices on the 2nd hand market have fallen substantially🫣 I believe real value of these blades are coming back to earth

idk, managing most of the run of 39s, id say things have leveled out a touch? its difficult to say however as each enthusiast likes different things. some are already on the 78s

Geez, now will have to listen to mrknife mrknife complain about the forum knife price this year. Got mad at me yesterday for selling a knife for almost the same price I had to pay for it. Because I told him when he reached out to me, about the price it sold at, that I thought it would sit at that price. Without him asking me what I paid for it. I paid 225 awhile back for it and asked 250 for it. But I guess for my huge 25 dollar profit that went to shipping the knife priority and insurance for the knife. He went ahead and called me a flipper and blocked me because I didn’t sell my knife for 50% less than what I paid for it in the recent unfortunate GEC market. Always had a lot of respect for him as a collector. But maybe the recent market has just got people so tore up that they are blocking anyone and everyone. Real shame the recent market has done this to people. But I am also glad the prices of secondary market GECs are coming back down and hopefully people can buy/sell their knives at cheaper prices and not have to lose sleep over it.

Who said im mad? the block is to make sure i dont deal with people like you. I couldn't careless what you paid for it or what you got out of it. I can't say I had much respect for you before, but seeing you make a private conversation public, definitely removed what ever shred of respect I may have had for you.

mrknife mrknife I am publicly sorry for whatever I did to offend you Jack. I’m sorry I couldn’t talk with ya privately like a man about your problem since you when on the attack and block scheme. My problem wasn’t with you blocking me because you don’t like me. But you got mad about the price I sold a GEC at. Instead of blocking me then, you went on the aggression to say you would never pay that much for a knife, which is the same amount me and everyone else is having to pay for it. Had I did a survey of everyone else out there and would they have paid the amount I did to have a nice knife the majority would have said yes. Then you called me a flipper. Which I would consider a flipper someone to be a person who buys low to sell high or buys high and sells higher. If you are considering me selling a tad higher ($25) than what I paid to cover shipping and insurance and maybe have 5 dollars left over then that’s just crazy thinking. If you are blocking me because of this one transaction that didn’t involve you and was a very fair/ smooth/ and easy transaction. Then you hopefully are blocking everyone else with the exact same daily transactions. Which would leave you with yourself to talk too online. I’m sorry that you are stuck in the past. Me and many others wish we could still be living in the past with you Jack. But unfortunately as you have already obviously seen with the last couple years forums knives. They just keep getting more and more expensive to buy. Which means everyone is selling and buying high. If I had bought that knife back in 2013 for 80 bucks then sold it yesterday for what I did. I would totally get your point of view. But I seriously doubt it is because of what I sold my knife for yesterday. I think it’s because it’s one you really wanted as you stated in the private messages. And that I didn’t come find you and give it to you for 2013 prices which I didn’t get to pay. If I recall this isn’t the first time you’ve been mad I couldn’t hook you up with 2013-2015 drop prices. From a respect standpoint. Like I said I’ve never had any problem with you in the past I felt like where I was upset with you about something that I lost respect over it. If anything I recall trying to help you look for knives before like the “rare” sfa you have on the 15 pattern with the bar shield. I would think that’s a respectful act of generosity trying to help lookout for a fellow collector. If you could give me an example or examples where you “ didn’t have much respect for me” insisting I did something that made you lose respect in past I would love to hear. I feel like I’ve done a very good job selling my GECs very close to my cost ever since I’ve been into collecting. Never had any negative experience up until now in this knife collecting hobby. If you seriously have that big a problem with me. I hope that it’s because of the market and not because of something I have done to make you lose respect. And that you are blocking every single person that is doing the exact same thing I’m doing in this hobby and not allowing them to remain your fellow collector because they were into GECs 10 years ago the same time you were. If you are against newer people getting into knife collecting just say that and don’t go blocking good people because you don’t like a reasonable price they sold their knife for in order to get their money back and fund a different knife purchase. Like stated above I’m sorry and hope we can go back to being fellow collectors. If not, hopefully you can elaborate on what made you lose the respect for me. That isn’t a reasonable thing that 100% of collectors are facing everyday. Thanks.
