A little background first: In March kenishiro (Eric Wong) and struck a deal with him buying my Crawford titanium KFF. On 03/31/00 Eric e-mailed me that he had mailed me payment for the KFF in the form of a bank draft (Eric lives in Malaysia),and that I should have it in 7-10 days. Due to his good standing on BF I had no reason to doubt his word that the draft had been mailed. On Monday (04/03/00) I mailed the KFF to him in Malaysia via priority mail, I had not received payment from Eric at that time, but others here on BF who have dealt with me know I'm an honest, trusting (pat on my back) kind of guy. I wanted us to both receive our mailings around the same time. What could go wrong?????
The Good: kenishiro (Eric Wong), Man am I sorry Eric, we went through hell and high water to get this deal done. Eric recieved the KFF on 04/10/00. I had not received the bank draft. On 04/14/00 I started to get worried. My friends were laughing at me "He's got your knife, you're not gonna get payment, he's in Malaysia, you were a fool to mail your knife out before you got your money". I started to believe them, doubt gnawed at my conscience. "Did I get ripped off?" "After all this time on BF, all my different buys, sells, trades did I finally get taken?"
Eric was extremely apologetic, he was real worried that his rep on BF would get tarnished. We both thought the payment he sent me was lost for good. I told him I thought he should wire me the money for the KFF and cancel the bank draft. He agreed. I crossed my fingers and hoped the wire would go through alright. I told Eric I owed Tom Mayo some money for a knife, and me not getting the money for the KFF was mucking things up. Without asking he e-mailed Tom and apologized on my behalf. I nervously waited for the confirmation from Eric that the funds were wired. Eric e-mailed me on 04/19/00 and said the funds were being wired on 04/20/00. I crossed my fingers, "Was this a stall tactic?"
Guess what? On 04/20/00 my wife called me at work. "You won't believe what just came in the mail, your check from Eric in Malaysia!" Letter was postmarked 03/31/00 just like Eric said it would be. I felt like a jackass, all that trouble, stress, everything that I put me and Eric through. If I'd just had a little more faith. The check was no good though, Eric had cancelled it. I checked my bank account 04/21/00. Funds had been transfered in from Eric on 04/20/00. I don't think he could have done more to ensure that I received my payment. Thank you Eric! You're one class act!
The Bad: Mail Service. It took 20 days for Eric's "registered air mail envelope" to be delivered. Not much bang for your buck, but I guess you can't complain too much, it finally made it.
The UGLY: U.S. Customs. Even though I got my letter delivered it turns out it would have all been useless anyways....Customs had cut open the letter (what they were looking for I don't know) and in the process sliced 1/3 of the bank draft off and lost it. I only received 2/3 of a check. Totally worthless! I contacted the post office and they sent me to Customs. I am now in the process of filing a greivance with them. If we hadn't done the bank wire I'd still be waiting for my funds!
Eric, I'll forward you copies of the grievance when I get them. Again, I'm sorry I had my doubts and that we even had to go through this. As I've e-mailed you, I'm glad this whole experience hasn't harmed the friendship we have begun!
Anyone want vouchers on Eric's word talk to me first!
Aloha!
Thomas
