The Grand Canyon - Going Down

Great pics!!! I'm working towards doing this in two to three years. I'm in training now...getting in shape and learning my hiking/survival skills. I want to trek the Canyon before I hit 55. I was just there in December with my husband and parents for the first time and fell in love with the beauty of the place. Bought a book while there that I highly recommend to anyone going to hike the Canyon...titled "Over the Edge: Death in Grand Canyon" by Thomas M. Myers (Author), Michael P. Ghiglieri (Author). A great treatise on what NOT to do in the Canyon...

Thanks for the additional pics donna. You won't regret trekking the Grand Canyon. It's an experience well worth the effort.

Thanks for the pics, the GC is a magnificent place. Anybody coming to SW Utah keep me in mind, I live about 20 miles from Zion and have pretty good knowledge of the area.

Sorry for this thread drift Bill.

Andy, did you post about your dog and I missed it? If so, I also hope he's recovering well.

Sorry Brian I wasn't sure you guys wanted to hear it over here. Its been posted other places, I know I posted it in the HI section. Boudreaux, my boxer pup was mauled at our first training class last Tuesday. There was no warning. A Boston Terrier just jumped him and grabbed his face. He got bit through the nose and on his jaw, and lost two canine teeth. (Baby teeth.) The vet put him on antibiotics, and he's made a great recovery.

I took this pic after I got the bleeding stopped but before the swelling set in. By morning he was really swole up.

Sorry for the additional drift HDW:

Andy (and everyone else in W&SS reading this), we are real people behind the posts, and as such, our bonding here is real. I consider this a community of PEOPLE FIRST, and because of the bonding, if something happens in life any member feels compelled to share, whether traumatic or happy, even if it's not wilderness related, I personally want to know. An old mentor of mine once said: "If you're not sure what to do, it's better to make an error of commission rather than an error of omission."

Heck, look at it another way: how often have I posted bad jokes? Jokes can be useful if funny. They are just increasing the noise-to-signal ratio when not. I'm guilty.

So, when in doubt, post it.

Okay, HDW, please forgive the drift. Back to the amazing canyon pics and info!

 Great attitude, really helps make this place what it is!

Thanks for the inspiration, HDW. I turned 60 last month. Those are great pictures of a magnificent canyon.

Great story and beautiful pics!!

Thanks JT. You've got some great pic posts out there yourself. I've got a fairly extensive knife collection, but the one thing missing is a high end tactical knife such as a Busse. I hope to learn more about selecting one and acquiring it in BF/WSS.
