"The Great Collections" HAS BEEN PRINTED!!

Oops, I forgot,I did take a Hancock folder in on trade once,it is currently on Hank Rummels site I believe

Sorry,I do not collect Fisk (I have a couple).
I have never owned a Hancock but have consigned a few.
My collection tastes run very slim these Days-Walker,Lake,especially Loerchner,Schmidt,Loveless and Moran.
I do purchase other makers from time to time.
I like both Fisk and Hancocks work but it is not what I choose to collect, perhaps it is because I am an ABS Mastersmith myself?
Who know's.

Very sorry Dave. I stand corrected. :foot: I guess I made one of those assumptions I was referring to in my post. :o

This assumption was based on the Fisk knives (especially NLTs) that frequent your site and in talking to you about Fisk knives at shows and such, and my purchasing several Fisk knives from you in the past. I guess I just got the impression some how that you collected them as well as sold them. Again, my mistake.

Certainly not an insult Kevin,I do get in a lot of Jerry's work, just got in a very nice Stag piece with estucheons.
As for collecting, again, these days I am not sure how much of my Collector has rubbed off.
I also like Watches and Cars and Guitars and........
Dave

I have a weakness for the cars too, but have found just as much joy in the knives. And a lot less expensive. At lease the knives I buy.......;)

Hello Dave,

I think that when listing your preferred taste in custom knives, you
described the knives you displayed in "The Great Collections".....

See you in Atlanta? I do need you to sign my copy.....

I will definitely be at Blade,in the ABS section row 4 I think

Hello M. Darom,

I'm a french collector (yes, it does exist !). I just receive your book this morning. I was wondering about the knife under M. Saviolo's picture at the very end of the book : I can't find any word about it. Is that a Fritz Schneider's ?

BTW : that book is something unbelievable !

Thanks

Patrick

Hi Patrick,

The knife you refer to is a small Neck-knife that Paolo Saviolo carries at
knife shows. Be at BLADE and you will see it....... And yes, you know your
knives :) it is a Schneider!

All the best,
David (ddd)

I am glad to announce that most pre-orders have been shipped
or are being shipped!

I hope you guys liked my book, Any comments?

Hope to meet many of you at the BLADE Show next weekend,
please make a point of introducing yourselves!

Mine came the other day, Great work, fantastic photographs and the text is very interesting. Over all a wonderful addition to any library. It is sittin on the coffee table right now.

It does have one typo, It says "Bruce C Bump" My real name is "Bruce D Bump"

Its always me

Hello Bruce,

I am very sorry for this mistake. I get the draft of the information from
the participating collectors, edit it into a "readable" shape, have it proof-read,
copy-edited, convert all measurements into inches and mm and
finally send the texts to be checked by the collectors. If they don't find
anything wrong I consider the text final....

This of course is no excuse for such a mistake. I did try to avoid any
mistake at all, but being human I am sure that I missed one or two.....
especially with complicated projects like this one.

I hope this does not ruin the book for you... :)

Was my page setup of your amazing pieces to your liking?

See you in Atlanta?

David (ddd)

David, the book is first rate other than the typeo. I would be fine with it if you make it right by sending me a free copy for my son. :)

Consider this done, Bruce D. :)
Will you be at the BLADE Show?

David (ddd)

Just to let you know, the Van Barnett givaway knife was
won by Dr. David Cohen, who is also one of the collectors
displayed in my new book! Lucky guy!

And BTW, the book was a great hit at the show!

Thanks to everyone who contributed to its success.

My two books (latest two of the 4) make a complete set now. Phyllis and I spent 1 1/2 looking over the photos in the latest "Great Collections" and enjoyed every moment. thanks for doing such a nice job for all of us collectors to enjoy David.

These books are stellar for their profiles of great collections. And, absolute stunning photos. Good work David!

I have long been hoping to see a DVD series, done that visits with knifemaking's most interesting and elite makers, visiting the shops, discussing the tradition of it.. kind of a documentary the same that has been done on Appalachian music, fiddlers.. for purely historical purposes, showcasing the craft and tradition. But, so far there are only individual "how to" videos (that I am aware of..) Might be good project that someone of means and resources could do.. maybe in conjunction w/ the ABS school? One might even apply for a Federal Arts grant, who knows? But, just a suggestion of a worthy next project, if you're open to it.. There is a shop in Riverton Wyoming, on the Willow Bow Ranch..

I'm stunned by this book!

Of course there are many OUTSTANDING knifemakers that don't appear in these collections. These collections have been built over many years and are incredible investments but they are the choices of the owners not the popular vote.

I feel lucky to be able to drool over the pictures without wondering about those makers not represented. It's too bad that the Japanese collectors didn't participate I bet there are some stunning collections there given how their culture reveres the blade.

All excellent points and well stated

I enjoy the book also, and would like to see a second showing more collections.

Lucky for me that also I brought my pocket Canon SD 850 IS
to the BLADE Show.
This little marvel uses image stabilizing to allow shooting hand held pictures
in available light at speeds of 1/15 and 1/10 of a second using the high
quality ISO setting (low ISO of 100).
It really was lucky for me because this camera enabled me to end up with
quite a good documentation of our stand at the show.

The 28 mm wide angle setting, available on this model, also enabled
the shooting of a more dramatic image.

All that was needed to finish the job was a little color correcting.
