The Great MKII Kami Challenge!

I emailed Auntie and asked her thoughts on sending photos and specs. She said the kamis were swamped with orders right now and told me to try next month. But, with her post above, she's obviously watching the thread. I guess she's having the kamis work with the original model. Should we still try to narrow down the perfect specifications and some good photos and send them in? I'm afraid the model might not give us the tapered blade. Bill, forumites, what do y'all think? Take care.

The Kami's are making some based off the old model and thats exactly what I'd like to see for now. Once we get a few of those, maybe we can figure out something. Who knows, maybe these will be a big Hit.

I have a M43 that should be arriving very soon, and I belive someone else here on teh forum does as well - so we can add those specs in as soon as they arrive, if you'd like.

I just received mine (sort of), but I won't be able to give any info on it for a few months. I am in the process of moving, and had to have it shipped to my parents while I the family settled and adjusted.

So I guess you don't sleep with your kukri? Hmmmm...

John,

I will do whatever is needed but it sounds like they are swamped right now. If Yangdu wants one to send over for comparison I am open to discussing that.

I'm excited to see what they come up with, but I'd still like to have some good measurements from an original Mk II. All I ever see are pictures with an occasional length, weight and thickness at bolster. I'd really like to know the spine thickness at the bolster, shoulder and about an inch or so from the tip, along with belly width at the widest point. The mk II photos also seem to show no hint of a chirra in the main body of the blade. This makes me wonder if the blade had a flat "grind" forge to it starting at the spine or is there something the photos don't show. I think this info would be handy if the new/old version misses the mark, and would just be nice to have so those of us without an original could compare and contrast. I look forward to the return of the original. My current M-43 is a masterpiece and an incredible tool. I don't have any real "weapon" khuks. The original M-43/Mk II seems like it may fit better into that niche than the current model. It's very refreshing to have a business so responsive to the consumer. We got the bonecutter back in no time at all and it looked like the kamis nailed the design pretty well. Take care and God bless.
