The Great Pi Day, Posts: 1K, ... Giveaway WINNERS ANNOUNCED

Thank you for the GAW "5K Qs". I am interested in the RR Lockback Hunter. I have never owned a Rough Rider knife but have always been interested in seeing for myself what many say is good fit and finish for an over seas budget knife. I also favor single blade traditionals around 3.5" closed and really like lock backs. The stainless steel is also a plus. Amber bone just happens to be my favorite cover material and I like the match strike long pull nail nick. As you can see the little lock back ticks a lot boxes on my wish list.

In for the Buck solo

When I first got into knives I went through a top 50 budget modern list.

Then one day I happen to wander into the traditionals forum and decided to try out some slipjoint. This Buck Yearling and RR trapper were one of my first tryouts.

Loved the size of the Buck, but the 440c and heat treat of the early 80s were not very user friendly. I still love the size as well as single and double bladed slippie. I carry a RR Half whittler almost daily even though I have a few fun moderns that could be decent carry's. The current Buck 420 steels are quite decent for everyday use.

Thanks for the opportunity! I'm in for the 1 armed trapper, because I'm intrigued by the one-arm blade, and would like to find out how useful it is. Also, that's some attractive bone. Also, good pictures!
Thanks again,
Phil

That right there is a classic example of the kindness and generosity I find so characteristic of this sub-forum. My pictures are way less than ideal, in my opinion and relative to most that I see posted here, but forumites are generally willing to give you an A for effort! :o (Yesterday I may have discovered a way to get a quantum improvement in my photos, though; can't wait to try some more to see if I can get consistent improvement! :D)

Hi there, thanks for the chance. I'm in for the Buck solo. I am a habitual whittler and the knife would be used. I have always wanted to try a single blade traditional slip joint, I have an opinel8 as my only single traditional other than a lockback that was my grandpa's.
As I said thanks for the chance and have a good one.
Oh, meant to say I have Pi memorised to 9 decimal places. 3.141592654

Did you ever use any of those mnemonics for memorizing digits of Pi? For example, one I've used (and have gradually added to) is May I have a large container of coffee, cream and sugar optional? Naturally, cookies desirable, too, if you consider them. Thanks!, in which the length of each word corresponds to a digit of Pi. By the way, I really like that Buck Solo; it's slender and elegant, but I'd rather carry a 2-blade peanut or Vic Pocket Pal.

Congratulations on the milestone GT, and thanks for joining and contributing to our community here, you've been a good addition IMO! ;) Thanks for the generous giveaway, but may I ask permission not to enter, I've also been the recipient of a lot of generosity here, and would prefer someone else to win this - several 'someone's in fact?!

It's interesting to hear it's world Pi day. It was one of the very first words one of my children could say, and much to the annoyance of her mother, I'd always ask her to tell me, "What's 22 over 7 Ellie?" Not being a mathematician myself, I hope that you don't mind if I celebrate with a piece of pie ;)

Look forward to your next 1000 posts

Jack

Thanks, Jack! :) Strange coincidence; my daughter is named Elle, too (different spelling - short for Gaybrielle). A piece of pie to celebrate is certainly acceptable, as long as you at least briefly contemplate the ratio of the dessert's circumference to its diameter! ;)

Very nice GAW Gary. I like the toothpick. Don't know why I don't have one in my collection because I've always liked the pattern.

All in for the toothpick. I love the lines of toothpicks, but have never had a 4-inch one.

Bob and S&S, I like that toothpick, and my opinion is that a 4-inch toothpick carries smaller than many knives a quarter inch shorter. I just prefer a 2-bladed toothpick. I often carry an old shell-handle Imperial 2-blade toothpick (thanks, davek14).

I'm in for thr Rough rider one arm trapper, beautiful jig bone with the capabilities multiple cutting purposes.

To 5K Q's , no I do not use a mnemonic for Pi. I was homsechooled for the first 9 years of my education. We did an online maths programme and the first time I came across Pi i was still using one of those calculators that just does multiplication and division, no Pi built in. So with the help of google I learnt the first few digits of it good enough for use in an equation and would have to input Pi every time it was needed. That's how I learnt Pi. Then I got a Sharp DAL for physics and a Casio classpad for maths but Pi still rides along with me in the old vaults.
James.

Bumping this back to the first page to give anyone interested a final opportunity. I'll randomly select TWO winners Wednesday morning. For what it's worth, looks like currently there are 3 entrants interested in the toothpick, 4 in the Buck Solo, 5 in the lock back hunter, and 6 in the 1-armed trapper.

I'm in for the Buck 379 solo!!
I love traditional knives and I like little knives so this little knife would get a lot of use and carry time!
Thanks for the chance!!

Congrats on the 1000 posts mark. Very nice of you to do this GAW 5K Qs  I would love the Buck solo because I have always wanted one and it is close to the ideal 3.14 inches. Below is one of my favorite shirts. Hooray for math teachers :D

Congratulations to fairhaven and Sword and Shield for winning the Buck Solo and RR Toothpick, respectively.:thumbup:
Please PM or email me your mailing addresses and I'll get the knives in the mail.
Thanks for playing, everyone!
