Interesting, but the author repeats some Bozoesque modern mythology in his previous article cited in the linked piece:
"...These knife-wielding warriors are members of the Royal Gurkha Rifles. And they're not British--they're Nepalese. Their signature blade is called the kukri. Gurkhas have been known to decapitate their enemies with it (it can also double as a deadly boomerang)...."

well, there is a long history of thrown sticks for hunting, some with a slight curve, but I don't think I'd call those boomerangs. See Sir Richard Burton's Book of the Sword for typology and cultural info.
