The H.E.S.T., a better slicer than it has a right to be...

Wow. I used to live in Annapolis and remember winter being a tame season compared to Minneapolis. We've had some snow and cold, but you have received a ridiculous amount of snow. That chili will keep ya going!

Receiving a foot of snow or a little more used to be a once in a decade thing here.

I know! It's Global Warming! My God, the genius of those pesky British scientists and American politicians! If it's HOT, it's "Global Warming." If it's snow anus deep to a thirty-five foot giraffe with a Windchill Factor of - OH MY GOD IT BURNS!, it's... "GLOBAL WARMING!"

In a Mental Hospital, this is known as "delusional." In regular life, just another day.

Was visiting friends in Essex that time.
Also my Brother lives in Anapolis/AA county and I visit him every few years.

I think a Firehouse burned down over there last night in Essex. Ambulance, Brush Fire Jeep, two Firetrucks and a NG Hummer. Some type of electrical fire. (I just checked it was at Sollers Point Road in Dundalk, between Murderland and Essex...)

Ok, that is the funniest descriptions I have heard in a very long time... your quite poetic when you wanna be Don... :)

Hey Don, you should throw your chili recipe in with that other stuff you're sendin me, I would say send the chili, but I don't want to vomit on the gear:barf:

Amazing what a "thick" blade will do to MEAT;) very subtle:D

Hey Brother, I learned a lot yesterday from that thread. I also learned that a Kabar had a thick blade. :D

BWAHAHAHA . . . ah I am just gonna leave it at that so we don't get too many comments in this thread:thumbup:

Next time you get a big roast or something you should give it a good slice with your HEST/Izula and show some pics just how well it will open it up with one slice:thumbup:

Good to hear that it is a good slicer. I was wondering about that. I plan on adding a HEST to my collection soon.

By "collection," I hope you mean add it to the rotation of tools you actually use. These things are too wonderful to sit on a shelf or whatever to just brag about.

I love the HEST. It is a great little COLLECTORS piece :p

Just kidding, of course. No safe queens here. If I own it, it will be used. :D

the HEST is the only fixed blade esee knife that ever piqued my interest to buy a esee brand knife...in the field i've always had a ZT110 or 120 on belt, or a mora for something lighter...the HEST has now taken the place of the mora; it's really been a handy blade to have available in more than one functional area...

still got plenty of love for the moras though...

I know, "But it doesn't slice as well as a..." Oh well, what are you going to do? How much "better" can I get than "effortless?"

Some people will always have a reason to take a dump on one knife over another. One of my pet peeves is people that take a dump on Moras. I have never used one and never owned one but enough people that I know and trust swear by them so I know they're good knives. I don't go over there and say, "Yeah, your Mora is POS and you should go buy a H.E.S.T./Izula/Whatever."

It seems that some people's pride of ownership just manifests in "in your face" ways. I dunno. My pride of ownership manifests itself in a couple pictures like those above - a job well done.

Hi Don,
these days I'm testing a knife of a friend with a beautiful convexed flat ground mirror polished blade.
It's an amazing slicer, hot blade in butter kind of thing.
After cutting some hard wood, the edge was ruined like i could have chopped it into concrete !!!
So, oh yes, the HEST is a great slicer. At least in never let me down ! Reliability is not that common.

(The knife was almost zero grind, full flat convex and now is back in shape.)

Cheers

Sausages are not an official benchmark for slicing perf... ;)

But: try to slice toilet paper... the softer the better.
and the harder to slice !

Why would a man want to cut up his TP? My HEST comes in the mail today providing the little saying about the post office still rings true, neither snow nor rain....maybe I'll take a swip at my TP to see how it does????

We have the snow part to deal with now.

...and to think when your BBQ is all cooked up you can use your HEST to pop open a cold one...and clean the grease outta yer fingernails with the prybar...Knife Life doesn't get any better then this... :)
