When i go backpacking i sometimes would boil some water so i can wash up. maybe just my hair(not that i got much left). Sometimes i would undress and wash up. If the weather is nice and warm. Dirty cloths i would tie with a rope to a stick and throw them in the water for a few hours then hang it in the sun to dry. It realy does get the cloths clean. I find that it would make me feel so much better as if i had an energy boost. If you were in the show, The Alaska experiment.. Would you try and shower??? and if you would how would you build a shower with what they have out there??? I saw they had some garbage bags im sure they would make a great liner and should hold warm water with no problem... lets not forget that before people used to die all they time from infection more then anything else... No reason to be anal about trying to stay clean but no reason not to try and clean up too..

I know what you mean. I think I'm borderline OCD with washing my face. Whenever I go camping I bring my MSR packtowel so I can wash my face and I usually do it a few times a day. It may be weird but after washing my face I just generally feel cleaner even though its just my face.

When I was backpacking for a week the last few days I was really jonesing for a shower. If I was somewhere for an extended period of time I think I would have to figure out a bathing system whether it be a dip in a body of water or a hillbilly tub.

Even if I just go for a walk around the lake for a few hours, if it's on a hot day I find a good way to cool off is to bring a bottle of tap water, pour some over my head, rub it into my forehead, temples, and back of my head and neck. This is a good way to keep little kids from overheating, running around in the sun, too. It's not just for keeping clean. Second step is to take off my shirt, soak a small towel I carry (viscose rayon) and swab off my chest and back and arms.
