Is trying to distinguish between which models I "need" and which i want". Survive is the only company that i like every model of. I do like a variety of companies but only a selected couple or few of their models.

In saying that; money doesnt grow on trees and so i need to distinguish which models I need and which i just simply want. Does anyone else face the same struggle?

Which is your favourite model and why? :)

I'd say the hardest part is actually buying one. I'd have at least one of each right now if I could buy them.

I hesitated today trying to decide whether I was ok with buying a factory second or not and they were sold out in 15 minutes. Now I'm kicking myself.

I really hope the 5.1 comes up again next week because I don't want to wait months for it to get back in production.

Agreed but there are a fair few options on pre-order available even though it is quite a long waiting period. But well worth it i'm sure nonetheless

I want a 5.1 and right now there are no options, and sometimes I can get very impatient lol.

You describe exactly my dilemma. I usually find one or two models that I like from a company, and then don't care for the rest of the line. Not so with S!K, I'd like to have every model. :) I have three models of Survive Knives right now, the 3.5, 10, and new model 5.1. If I were forced to give up all but one of those, I would keep the 3.5. It does a lot of tasks very well, and disappears when not in use. It is so handy, maybe the most useful all-around blade I own.

I really have no need for the larger blades (6 and above), and don't have any desire for them. But the smaller blades are ALL calling to me. I maybe could pass on the bushcrafter, but then again it could be such a flexible blade. I have the 5.1 and the 4.7. When I started using the 4.7 I thought, "Man this thing just fits my hand perfectly!" Then I picked up the 5.1 again and thought, "Well, maybe this one really is a better handle length..." So to your second qestion - "the one I'm holding at the time."

Ha! Perfect answer!

There are SO many good models. There are only 2 or 3 that don't have me rushing to enter my credit card information on their website. But I'm getting to the point where I'm trying to justify getting a second of my favorite models in a different steel.

Also, I've been in the situation where I NEED a certain model right now, but the next on my list can wait until I've saved a little more. My next purchase isn't totally out of reach it just has to be pushed farther into the future.

@Seraphus 5.1's are available most mondays, i suggest you check out their schedule on their website, it gets updated and notifies you on which mondays 5.1 are available.

@hardknocks isn't it just a annoying but at the same time awesome dilemma!? I wish i wasn't so poor and didnt have to think so hard about which models i want the most and could just buy them all!

@TRfromMT
Which do you prefer or can you not decide? Those new 4.7 look so beautiful. I thought i wanted a 4.1 next but those 4.7 have me thinking..

@Silver needle which2 or 3 do you not favor? I remember reading that you were fighting yourself from trying to resist ordering a 6 haha. How did that go?

Now my question to you guys if you have experience with or know much about the difference between the 6 and 7/7. Is there anything one can do but the other cannot?
I have a 6 ordered so basically asking...do I need the 7/7 or do i just want one haha

Yeah, I had to pass on the SK 4.7 eventhough it was within my grasp. I have a 5.0 currently with a 3.5, 4.5, and a 4.7 on order. However, I am holding out for a 2.7 for my needs. Hopefully, it's going to be my coastal fishing knife for the summer. I day hike when I can along the coast and fish for small mackerel when the tide is right. The 2.7 should be good enough for corrosion resistance. I plan on lashing it to my pack strap. That is if I can snag one during a sale.

Ok, just between you and I (I don't want the other guys to find out), I'm not totally in love with the original necker or the 3.5. To be honest I haven't tried the necker, but handling a Guy sharp blade with only a lanyard handle freaks me out :p
I know the 3.5 is loved by many, but I personally just prefer something smaller like a true neck knife size or slightly bigger like the 4.1. Also, the 5.1.......... controversy! In a knife that size I just prefer no choil. That's why I'm so glad Guy offers the GSO 6!
Currently it is the 12 I'm trying so hard to resist. And it is the 12 that has me pinching all my pennies!

I don't have a 6 or 7/7 but I think it comes down to blade length, weight and the choil. Is the 7/7 too big to get carried regularly? Do you want the extra length for batoning?

In my mind, the 7/7 is Guy's version of a military style fighting "kabar" style knife. But I know several guys who have or want one for regular woods use. What will your main uses be for this knife?

The nod has to go to the 4.7 at the moment. I wish I had opportunities and reasons to use the 5.1 or a 6, but that 4.7 is an exact fit for my hand. The 5.1 blade is amazing (visually perfect - it just looks right!), but that 4.7 is purpose built for me! After the buzz of having a pre-production sample dies down, I will probably figure out how to strip the coating and get a patina going. Then - dream knife!

I agree the neckers look awesome and so handy as a go-to-blade
But i also think the 4.1 is almost perfect size for anything..

My main use would be a camp knife. I have read mixed reviews where people say 7/7 is a bit big to carry while others say its just right. I'm quite torn, but then again its only 1.25 inches longer than the 6.
Maybe ill just have to get both...sigh haha

Sold out in 15 minutes is a pretty long time compared the the Busse Ganza's
Those are pretty much gone in the first minute!

Yep. I was thinking the same thing about Nathan the Machinists stuff. Five light choppers last week, and 11 'ill take its' in the first 60 seconds.

Come on, Xtian! I told you not to tell anyone :D

Too late, you're exposed now you poser!! :D

Seriously, though, I hear ya, bud. Not every model is going to work for every user. And what a boring knife world it would be if it were that way. But between varying hand sizes, technique, daily requirements, camping styles, etc. we've got to have some variation. Also, I think Guy gets the ergos as good as anybody, be it big knife or small knife.

I can't say I need any of them, but I definitely want most of them. If I was only going to get one it would probably be the 6. If I could only have 2 it'd be the 4.5 and a tossup between the 10 and 12.

Ha! :D

Xtian, check out the 7/7 thread that was revived by Texas_Toothpick. Back then I was contemplating getting the 7/7, but I ultimately decided against it because I wanted something either a little smaller or bigger to truly act as a chopper. That is just my preference and how my tastes have changed in a year.

Now this sums it up! At least for me. I'm not a big bushcrafter or hunter or backpacker, so personally I could get by with very little. But what fun would that be?????
