The hardest part of loving survive

@Seraphus 5.1's are available most mondays, i suggest you check out their schedule on their website, it gets updated and notifies you on which mondays 5.1 are available.

Oh I'm well aware lol. I just hesitated this Monday because there were only factory seconds put up. Now everyone is saying that Guy's version of a factory second is just as good as other people's factory firsts (so to speak).

I picked up a 5.1 second because I REALLY wanted a 5.1 and no firsts were available. I couldn't find the flaw. I love it. I wondered if they sent me a first by accident. I'm really glad I didn't wait for a first to become available because I doubt I would be able to tell them apart. For me the hardest part is the low availability and my lack of patience. SURVIVE! Is making me a better person by helping me keep things in perspective and learn patience. And they made me a great knife! Loving SURVIVE! ain't hard... it's easy!

I agree the neckers look awesome and so handy as a go-to-blade
But i also think the 4.1 is almost perfect size for anything..

My main use would be a camp knife. I have read mixed reviews where people say 7/7 is a bit big to carry while others say its just right. I'm quite torn, but then again its only 1.25 inches longer than the 6.
Maybe ill just have to get both...sigh haha

Ok, here are some more thoughts...... I think the 6 is perfect for a camp knife. It can do some very light chopping and definitely batoning, but it is also manageable for food prep and fire prep. The 7/7 has more length, but I'm not sure about significantly more weight due to the relatively short (edge to spine) blade. Now to further complicate things, the 8 is slightly longer than the 7/7, but has a taller blade and I'm sure will champ like a chop......... I mean chop like a champ as well as baton.

But like you said, getting both would surely solve the dilemma :)

Why do you do this, whyyyyyyyy!
Hhaha the more i hear the more i want them all. But i am so poor :( that 8 looks very tempting and looks like a great chopper but with much less weight than a 10. It seems that way anyway. If only money grew on trees.

Ps you said you are not a big bushcrafter or hunter or backpacker.
Me neither.
Can i ask what you use your knives for? Or do you just collect? Asking purely out of interest
:D

Ha! I understand having a finite budget for "toys" :)
Since you have a 6 on order, I think you're set with a knife that can do almost everything and do a lot of things really well. In another thread you mentioned possibly wanting a 4.1. Now you might be thinking going a little bigger. Depending what you end up wanting to spend money on, the production schedule is already helping you decide! If you're saving some money, you could preorder an 8 NOW or you could try for a 4.1 at some point relatively soon on Monday sales or you could keep saving even longer for the 7/7 to become available on Mondays.

I had completely forgotten that I was the one who started the 7/7 thread that recently popped back up. Back then I wanted a smaller knife like a 4.1 and something bigger, then I'd be set with two knives for the rest of my life..... what a joke :D
I started with what I thought would be a practical set and then as more opportunities to buy opened up I filled in with models that I just really wanted to try. If you're in a similar situation, think about what you NEED to compliment your 6 based on what types of things you want to do with these great knives and then just keep looking to the future!

I used to spend much more time out in the woods and I plan to again someday, but for now I'm mostly finding uses for my knives around my home. Wood processing, fire prep, whittling for fun and just practicing different skills. Since I don't hunt or need a quality knife for my profession, I could honestly get by with what I need a knife for with a $30 Schrade. BUT I consider myself a SURVIVE! enthusiast and absolutely love these knives and the company that makes them.

Hahahah as you can tell i cant make up my mind.
I want so much more than i can afford and keep changing my mind on what i want the most :D

Do you own any yet or have any on pre-order?
I can get away with using my crappy knives around the house (mostly what my knives are intended for), but i do need/want some quality knives like survive just because..well just because haha. They are to athetically pleasing doubled with great quality to not own at least 1 ...or 5

It's funny the different stages we go through in this obsession. We're probably all qualified to write a book, Confessions of a knifeaholic. LOL.

And I'd say wanting some qualities knives 'just because' is as good a reason as any :)

Im glad i am not alone with my unhealthy obsession :D
And LOL i agree, what a great and interèsting book that would be.

Confession #1 no one knows how much money I spend on knives nor would they ever understand

Totally understandable.

I had to get into knives, because otherwise it would be on my 1911 pistol hobby. Heaven knows I cannot afford to get into that as much as I'd like!

I always say, I could probably get by with a Mora and a Laplander,,, just don't tell my wife I said that.

Trying to decide can be part of the fun. Like I was saying before, you're off to a great start with the 6, so keep meditating on which model would be most useful to add next and then keep expanding as the budget allows. That's been my strategy and it has worked out pretty well.

I have an old spec 3.5 and necker II and 5. I love my 5 SO much. I jumped in on the starter last spring with the 4.1 and 4.7 even though their specs are similar I just had to have them both! Over the last year I was able to scrape together enough to order some bigger and smaller models........... now I'm going back and forth about this darn GSO 12 :D

I totally understand. The aesthetics of Guy's knives are everything I love about knives. It turns out they work really well too!
