The HI Kerambit. An old friend finally comes home

I had thought that this applied to pictures posted through the BF server itself, not externally, and I've done this a couple of times in the past. :o If it's not too much trouble, can we get an official ruling on this?

Got it!!!! Cougar says it's cool as long as the pix are external. :D

I didn't expect Spark to go along with that, I figured he'd say "no" . We really don't like bothering the Supers and the Boss with little stuff. I have to admit it, Yvsa went out for you Dave, and not all of the mods on Bladesforums would have bothered.

Gotta give credit where credit's due, for everyone.

Greetings: Jake
Excellent pictures of your kerambit and sheath. What I like about my kerambit is that it is such a compact piece of high carbon steel blade that can be used as a last ditch defense weapon when one gets down to defending oneself with nothing but ones fists and feet.

I like how one can wrap the handle up in one's fist and use it to support one's fist when one's fist is in use and if you should miss your intended target with your fist, then the sharp edge of the blade which extends out from the bottom of your fist will simply rake across the face, neck, or whatever part of your opponet that you missed with your fist. After one rake of the blade, it will make your opponent stand still and be glad to be hit directly with your fist rather than trying to dodge your fist. At that time, you say to your opponent " Hey, dummy stand still and let me hit you with my fist rather than being raked with the kerambit. I guarantee you it is going to feel better to you, if you just stand still and get hit with my fist and don't jump and jive and try to dodge me and get raked with the old kerambit. However, if he is not a complete dummy and has any brains at all, you would think that he would take off in a dead run at this point of combat, unless he should happen to be carrying a short sword and in that case I may decide to take off in a dead run. However, since I am not that good a running any more, I carry a 40 caliber glock pistol when I am out and about.

Another thing that I like about the kerambit being rather compact is that it is fits well into my fists, since I am the runt of my family. My older brother is 6'6" and weighs 265 lbs., my younger brother is 6'4" and weighs 255 lbs., and I am 6'2' and weigh 235 lbs.

However, I emphasize the fact that I carry the kerambit as a last ditch defense weapon since I have a concealed weapons carry permit and usually carry a 40 caliber glock on my person when I am out and about. Since there are a lot of armed thugs on the street, I consider it to be wise to be as well armed as the thugs so that I stand a chance of being able to defend myself, if I am ever required to do so, right? I would only use these weapons as self defense tools, in case of major threats. I used to use my fists and feet more frequently as a younger man but certainly would not care to do so at my present age unless it became absolutely necessary.

Yes sir, the kerambit is an excellent close combat defense weapon. I have three of them. I highly recommend the kerambit as a last ditch defense weapon. It is a sad fact but in today's society, one had better be able to defend oneself from the predators that roam around out there.

Must be Revolution down there in the streets of Pearland Texas....

But there's no doubt about the America today; There's a lot of thugs that care nothing about anything except themselves.

Howdy Munk. Hey you are alright brother. Pearland is a small town just on the south side of Houston and Houston has a population of about 5.000.000 people now and I travel all over Houston from time to time and there are some areas of Houston that you really would not want your vechile to break down in, especially at night, brother. There really are some bad dudes among those 5,000,000 people.

I use to work in commercial construction as a construction manager in Houston and had to go down into the ship channel area to secure some commercial buildings for a certain building developer owner that owned several buildings in that area and when I got down into the area it began to dawn upon me that I was the only white boy in that particular area of town and it was getting later in the day and the sun was a going to be setting real soon.

Well, I was in the process of getting the buildings fully secured and fixing to get out of there when two cops in a police cruiser pulled upon me. They got out and asked me what I was doing in that area of town by myself. Those two cops were black cops. They told me that they as cops were only allowed in that part of town with two cops at a time for purposes of having immediate back up when needed. I thanked them for warning me not to hang around there very long and that I was finishing up what I was doing and was a fixing to blow out of that fire trap area part of town immediately. I didn't tell them that I was carrying my glock 40 caliber in by boot and would be glad to back them up if they needed help. They actually looked somewhat uneasy to me and they were the cops. So, with the cops looking uneasy in that part of town, I figured that it really was best to move on out of there ASAP.Well, I told myself that the next time I had to show up in that part of the city that I would bring along my 12 guage riot shotgun with me and a full bandoleiro of shells.

So, there you be. It is a wise thing to be armed in Houston, Texas. Especially since there are a bunch of people from New Orleans over here now from the hurricane destruction that fell upon New Orleans. The news recently announced that half the people that came out of New Orleans to Houston actually had past criminal records. I also understand that the Mafia is rather strong in the city of New Orleans and that 60 percent of the people in New Orleans are on wellfare from the government and living on your and my taxes that we are paying into the system. Well, we doing our best to help them folks over here from New Orleans but we sure not going to let our guard down either.
God bless you, brother.

God Bless you, J. W. Kilpatrick. Texas has a heart as big as its land mass. I think all of America is proud of Texas right now. They took New Orleans in.

I know about places where America has broken down, because I lived and worked in Southern California for many years.

Jake?

When I said that we were demanding pics, I meant pics of the knife...not that avatar.

I'm going to have nightmares tonight. Thanks a lot.

(Wouldn't that smiley just look perfect on the front of a 'dozer blade? I think that it would.)

Danny.............dunno that you and dan designed the Dankura !

Actually, I had asked Dan to make me a necker knife. He had a knife already forged and with a slight change to the nose, it became the Kazor. (see his website)
My wife fell in love with it so I havent been able to use it yet.

anyway, it occurred to me that I'd like to have a kerambit that was flat and concealable, like the kazor and other necker knives.
So, I took the kazor and imagined it with a curved blade and a ring, like the kerambit.
So, really I just morphed two of Dan's designs into each other and added my own desire for a very thin profile.
I have high hopes for the Dankura.
I know it's going to be good.

Jake,

That is one beautiful knife! Just saw the pictures, and my jaw bounced off of the floor... That's definitely NOT some kerambit you'd see courtesy of Cold Steel, or some other mass production vendor... Khukuri shape, kerambit execution... Do you think he'll be making any more, just like yours?

Here I was ready to plunk down some cash for my next H-I, and your knife has got me salivating...

Great photos, BTW...

Dangnabit! Gonna have to get one of those little beautys...

Thanks for sharing...

Azis has 10 of them and I can understand why. I always wanted a chandan or bloody sandalwood one and missed every time. I just sold my original kerambit, which was one of the very first batch. It was 2 oz. heavier than all the others I got, and had a very large handle ring, that was almost too large. The bolster was perfect, with no brazing marks in it at all, which the others have slightly. The handle was satisal. I sold it to a nice guy in New York, and ended up keeping 3 with the "new" smaller handle ring in horn, stag, and some kind of "special USA wood."

The one reason I hesitated in selling it (and I always have sellers remorse with these things) is that the fullers were different on this one from the first batch. They were deeper, the blade was wider, and there were distinct double fullers that went clear back to the bolster. My other 3, and the other later ones that I have seen, essentially have one large fuller in the middle of the blade that does not go as far rearward, with a smaller raised ridge demarcating a second much smaller fuller.

Maybe other guys who got some one from the first 8 or 10 that came can confirm this. In any case, I could not justify 4 of them (Oh sure, but can 3??? (-:) Still I have to free up resources for new HI products.

Regards,

Norm

Beside the 10 HI blades I have several other brands of karambits in my collection as I have been collecting these for many years however none of them are anything like the HI ones. Size thickness and ruggedness nothing else can really compare. Though these blades are called Karambit they are really in a class of their own.

Also the name DanKura means Dan's claw but I'm not sure if that's Dan K or Dan from Japan...maybe an unsolved mystery!
