The Hills Are Alive With The Sound of Bushcraft...

And I'd imagine that a paper towel soaked in vaseline would go up well enough to light just about anything. I keep a cotton ball or two soaked in vaseline in one of my little kits, just as a back up for a mental situation that looks quite a bit like what you just did.

I was actually surprised at how quickly the kindling caught fire in this case; not having been out in quite those conditions, I thought the wetness, rain and wind would have made it so the Vaseline/paper towel ball would have had to do a lot of burning.

Looks like with dry enough and small enough kindling ready to go, it can be lit more easily than I thought, which is why next time I'll try the method of starting it with a flame built under the tarp with a ferro rod, and transferred over to the waiting structure. The shelter should make it possible to do that.

Of course, I may have to wait a while for another downpour of that magnitude, especially one that coincides with my schedule to get out there. :)

You gotta name that cool chopper you made Stabman, I remember it from a other thread!

Its name is Stormbreaker. :)
Which is appropriate I guess, seeing as that storm could not defeat the fire fed by it. :D
