A few months ago my wife started complaining of headahces and dizzy spells. She went to her doctor and he ordered her a series of tests including bloodwork, a CAT Scan, and an MRI. She finally finished up these tests the other day and now we are awaiting the results. About 30 minutes ago the doctor calls and starts asking her if she ever had surgery for a brain tumor. She tells him no. She never had any type of surgery ever. He checks the records and he was reading her the wrong chart! Stupid bastard! Now my wife is upset and paranoid. We are hoping it isn't any sort of tumor or anything serious. I feel like hitting that doctor square in the face with the Adz end of a Halligan bar. When he calls back he better have some good news.

Hang in there KV! Be strong for her (like I'd have to tell you that.) Sending best throughts and prayers your way. Take care.

Well you can be thankful that the doctor caught his error when he did.

We'll all be praying for your wife. Headahces and dizzy spells can be caused by a lot of things many of which are not serious. So, we'll be praying that it's one of those.

Ken, I'll be holding you and your wife in the Light, which is Quakerspeak for "praying for you."

Same here buddy..call me if you need to talk..

Doctors..why is it they always are so negative and always give the worst possible scenario first?? My friends wife was having the same symptoms. It ended up she was developing an allergy to aspertine which is in diet sodas..

I pray its something as simple as that.

I know the waiting is difficult. Try not to worry too much until you hear something and then meet it head on. I'll be hoping for good news with you.

Hope you hear good news soon. Like Gollnick said, it sounds like this one is thorough and is paying your wife the attention she deserves.

Best wishes,

Matthew

I just got off the phone with my wife. The doctor called back and the MRI was negative but the ultrasound found a small cyst on her thyroid. She has to go for more bloodwork on Saturday and then a biopsy. Thyroid problems run in her family so I was actually relieved when I heard it was that and not a brian tumor. What pisses me off about this whole thing is that the doctor called her at work. I wasn't even there for her when she needed me to be. Asshole doctor. WTF was he thinking? One thing I would like to know, if anyone knows, if they remove part of the thyroid or all of it what will happen to her? Will she be on meds for the rest of her life and will she be battling weight gain or lose? How dangerous can this be if at all and can it be controlled?

Thanks for the support. :)

Ken, it has been my experience that doctors who are also healers rather than technicians are becoming fewer and farther between. It is a very sad situation. :(

Glad to hear the better news. Sounds like she'll be just fine -- :)

******* doctor. WTF was he thinking?

These days, with all this privacy stuff, doctors are really carefull to talk only to the actual patient. That can seem cruel at times.

Thyroid is easy. She'll just take a pill everyday. Fortunately, they're cheap pills, very low side-effects. If you miss a day, it's no big deal, etc.

Removing the thyroid is an easy operation with very low risk.

This would be a good thing if it were the problem and solution.

Gollnick is right--and it does sound like good news. Good luck with the biopsy, and keep us posted.

Ken,
I have an aquaintance that had his entire thyroid removed. He takes medication but has had no major lifestyle change. Often with cysts they will remove only the cyst. Medicine usually can determine via MRI and ultrasound if the cyst is cancerous in nature. Ask the Doctors what thier opinion of the cyst is. Do they feel it looks suspicious. If they wont give you an answer demand the films and go to a doctor who will give you information. If it looks cancerous they will probably remove part of the healthy thyroid tissue around this cyst. Fortunatly most cysts are NOT cancerous but fatty growth.

My wife and I with our son have been through the wringer with the Medical community. The only advice I can give you is that you are in charge. Not the Doctors. You and your wife should determine the best course of treatment for this cyst. I would definatly seek second opinion if out patient surgery is needed. And if this doctor has poor bedside manner. Change..right now..Its your right as a consumer. I feel bad that you wife has to go through this hell.

also dont read stuff on the internet about thyroid cysts..most of the crap on the web is clinical and is scary.

again call me if you need to rant..

But did he have to call her at work? She is at work right now and can't vent her frustration until she gets home. Bottling that up all day is not going to be good for her. She is a strong woman but things like this really get her upset and she is going to explode the minute she walks through the door.
