Well, by now my enthusiasm for the light, strong, and fast fighting knives Jerry Hossom makes is legendary. It was a dream come true for me to sit at his table with Don Rearic meeting many of you fine folk from the forums, and to have the privelidge of handling some of the amazing knives y'all purchased.

So, I want to share too! As background, Don, a warrior scholar if there ever was one, received a hook blade knife from Jerry. Since I saw that one, I wanted something similar, only with a longer blade.

Jerry out did himself. The dollar bill and the neck knife are posted for comparison, so y'all can get a sense of proportion. I really like this knife.

ATS-34 blade from Paul Bos, canvas micarta handles, 410 stainless bolsters, fancy mosaic pins. I'm going to make a sheath and shoulder rig around this knife, it deserves it.

Matt,

YOWZA!! You're right; that surely is a SWEET blade! I shudder just looking at it; it looks deadly just sitting there. Awesome...

Wish I could've been there with you gents at Jerry's table. You must've been in heaven!

That looks way wicked Matt, congrats. Nice job Jerry.

That is indeed a wicked blade! It was a pleasure to meet you at the show, Matt. Jerry's table seemed to be a Mecca for forumites.

I kick myself in the butt for not sittin around more with all the forumites at their tables, but I was affraid I would bother them. Jerry sure had some gorgeous knives at the show! I am still awestruck at what I saw there. Sure makes you want to improve your own knives! Take care! Michael

Always think of your fellow knife makers as partners in the search for the perfect blade, not as people trying to compete with you and your work!http://www.nebsnow.com/L6steel

Ooooh, I remember fondling that blade, Matt

Very sweet. I hope to be able to post a couple of pics of my two knives soon, so I can show them off to my fellow forumites.
Those two are from Jerry Hossom's shop as well and are absolutely beautiful.
I was just thinking.
Matt, what would you think about a combo carry of one Ronin and one Velociraptor in a shoulder rig??
Hmm, I wonder how much the Velociraptor costs?

This last weekend was one of the best of my life. Think about it, a weekend with Don Rearic, Paul Soo, and Jerry Hossom? I mean, who wouldn't just love it?

MrG, I really wish I could have met you face-to-face, and I'm hoping you can be sitting at the table with us next year.

Josh, I think that your knife design coupled with a raptor in a shoulder rig would be great! I'd be honored to make the rig for you.

By the way, my handles really do fit Neil's hands, probably the only hands that will fit the handles Jerry makes for me besides my own.

And Brian, I just have to get this off of my chest, YOU LUCKY DEVIL! I love that Millennium Duelist you purchased.

Matt

Definitely not a knife you can call a tool. ("honest, officer, it's just for cutting apples off the tree when I'm really hungry and can't wait to actually reach up, grab the apple, and twist it off the branch...") Very sweet, indeed.

Waiting until September...

Hi Matt, it looks like another of Jerry's winners. By the way, how does it thrust in a straight line? I won't even bother to ask how it slashs

It's easy Tom, I pay them an extra 50 cents to leave it off.

Thanks Matt and everyone else for your kind remarks. Most of the credit on this one has to go to Don Rearic (indeed the scholar warrior), who led me by the hand to get to a blade that I didn't really think I could grind. Grinding inside curves on a 2" wide wheel makes you a little crazy the first couple times you try it, and I have scars to prove it.

This was a wonderful collaboration though, since Don was very patient in helping me to understand his tactical goals, allowing me to say, "how about this...?" until we got it where he wanted it and I felt I could make it. Where he wanted it, BTW, was a hook that could indeed thrust. One of my great thrills this past weekend was watching Don demonstrate his remarkable martial skills and maneuvers, which vastly improved my grasp of these weapons, their use, and my purpose in making them. He's a wonderful teacher.

Thanks Don!

This baby does thrust well in a straight line. The point is in line with the knuckle of my index finger, not only placing the point in the line of thrust, but also allowing me to control the point quite well.

When I got home I tried some comma cutting in some fabric, and found that when I thrust the blade into the material, it produces a ripped puncture. The spine isn't sharpened, so it drives the sharpened edge and point deeper into the material at a downward angle. The edge is mirror polished, and is incredibly sharp especially at the tip.

This one will really have an honored place in my carry arsenal.

Matt

P.S. Tom, not only did Jerry manage to talk the Taiwanese into keeping their stamp off of it, he had the unmitigated gall to put his own stamp where the "Made in Taiwan" stamp would have gone!

Jeez Matt, that's a Raptor taken to the Nth degree!! That blade gives me the chills just looking at the pic, I can just imagine what it must look like in your big paw

I can't tell you how envious I am of you and Don. You guys must have had the weekend of your lives. Are you all intending to go again next year? If so, I'd love to join you- and with enough advance planning I think that I could make it happen. And maybe we could convince Mr.G and some of our other friends to join us as well. It would be one hell of a time

Anyhow, congrats Man. I guess I'm going to have to add a Raptor to my ever growing list of must haves from Jerry.

That is one heckuva blade there, great look. Is the blade fairly thick? Looks so sleek, and I can't imagine how well made. Great knives Jerry, that's all I've seen of you!

I have to say that I was a little sorry that I couldn't make Blade this year after having just expended some serious cash on a trip the week before...

Would have loved to hook up with Don again and meet up with Jerry and the rest of you guys.

Well, there is always next year... 'Til then I 'll just console myself with my next blade from Jerry.
