Great pics everybody.

The last time I was visiting my parents, I found an old TL-29 from my father's days in the Navy. It has some rust and is all gunked up from just sitting in the garage for years. I brought it back with me with the intention of cleaning it up, and forgot about it until this thread brought it to mind.

Great examples folks! Here's a Holub 249 still in the package. made by Schrade Walden in the late 1960's.

I just ordered the modern Klein version. I figure, for 20$, I won't cry too hard if it's a bad knife. How do these compare to the military issue Camillus version.

Interesting to learn all this history on the TL-29. I'm a marine electronics tech, so perhaps I'd better start scouting for my own.

You guys are killing me with all these great old knives! I am going to go hit the pawn shops on my lunch tomorrow and see what I can find. One of the guys says that he has a box with some old Klein's in it.

Here's my one and only at the moment:

about 15 yrs. back i bought a box of knives for 175$ in the bunch was a mint klein tl 29.the blades were carbon & had an absolutely great mirror polish.in the trade the old fellow wondered if i would leave the klein with him.anyway i was getting some korea era ka-bars &a union cut. dogshead folding hunter so i gladly agreed.i knew it would be the last mirror polish carbon klein i would probably see, but it was'nt a collectors pattern.thanks for the pics, brought up a great memory

I have lots of these, been giving them to my father for years. He uses them right up, something about the pattern he really likes.
The newer klein are cheaply made, probably made in China.

Not a very good pic, but this was my fathers when he was in the Navy in the 1940's. It was given to me when he passed away. He used it all the time to whittle.

Nice! Do you have any history on the mod of that screwdriver blade?

thx - cpr

I don't know why he modified it. He was very good with his hands, so I'd imagine that it served some purpose for him to do that. My mother told me he used it a lot for carving and whittling when he was in the service and after he got out for a while. It was in a box of some of the old stuff he kept in a drawer. He had not used it for years. He carved his name into the scale, if you look really close at the pic. For some reason he must have taken off the bail, or it broke off. I may fashion a new bail for it sometime.

stockman242 talked me into this one.:) Only problem is it makes me want about ten more.

Getahl,

Did you every get that Klein you ordered? I'm curious as to how it was.

I'm still kicking myself, but I came across an old woman at the last town yard sale that had a bunch of the Camillus TL-29's mixed in with some other pocket knives for sale. They were about 6 dollars a piece, and unfortunately I didn't get either one of them. Next year maybe..

Yeah, it came in a week and a half ago. I picked up the stainless one, and it's actually quite nice. It says USA on the tang (always a plus), brass liners, no play, and pretty good fit and finish. It's heavier than I thought it would be, and the scales are delrin or something like that. I'll get some pictures up tomorrow.

I found these two at a local pawn shop for less than a McValue Meal. :D The Camillus will need some serious blade rehab for carry, but the Klein seems like it will be ready to go with just some more oiling and cleaning.

I have never seen one that nice before. That must be a luxus version for electricians selibrating 25 years in the occupation.
