All of the best knives always get discontinued it seems. Then they become rare and collectible. Tilt, Tyrade, Tanto Lum. The list goes on forever. From Kershaw to Spyderco, to Benchmade to Emerson, they all have their awesome knives that nobody can find anymore. For example, did you know the new Kershaw CQC line is not the first Kershaw/Emerson collab? A while back there was an automatic Commander. Designed by Emerson, mechanism by Hawk, built by Kershaw. How many original 3600 Volts do you see? What about RAMs or MUDDs?

This is my mission. Lately I've lost almost all interest in regular production knives and am only looking for these types of gems. But the problem is focus! There are so many and I can't set my mind or money to finding one at a time. Here is what I have so far.

Kershaw RAM
Kershaw Breakout
ZT 0500 MUDD
Kershaw Groove
Benchmade 760LFTI
Benchmade 750 Pinnacle
Benchmade 615 Mini Rukus
Emerson Jungle Commander (this one may not be considered hard to find)

And the list of what I'm after:

3600 Volt
Kershaw Tilt
Kershaw Commander
Spyderco Ti ATR
Spyderco Lum Tanto
Benchmade Mini Skirmish
Emerson CQC-9

This is where you guys come in. Out of the second list, which should I focus on first? Also, what are some discontinued gems that you'd like to find? I'm trying to get a feel for what is very coveted.

Thanks BF!

The hunt...
Benchmade 806 AFCK in S30V (any any variation really)
Benchmade 610 Ruckus
Benchmade 910 Stryker M2HS
Benchmade 970 & 975 Emerson SpecWar versions
Emerson CQC6 (of course)
Knife Research Rasul
ZT 610ST (automatic)
ZT 650ST (automatic)
ZT 0500 MUDD
Kershaw 3600 Volt
Spyderco Chinook (original)
Microtech Socom Delta CP S30V PE
Microtech Socom Delta TE CPM-D2
Mcrotech Socom Elite Duratech 20CV - have one, need another ;)

It is a pricey list, but I find myself drawn to the older models these days. Some of the new stuff coming out just does not do anything for me. I like the new ZT stuff, hard not to.

Ooh, Charlie you reminded me of the ZT autos. 610ST and 650ST. Chalk those two down as well as a Kershaw Rogue!

This kind of tells manufacturers of gems in their old designs. In some cases they stay away from them for some unknown financial or legal reasons.

ZT/Kershaw and the G&G Hawk designs like MUDD and RAM.

Benchmade has seemingly given up on some of my favorites like Skirmish and Rukus.

Spyderco is attempting to resurrect the ATR and hopefully in Titanium unlike my SS one.

Years from now we'll lament on a new list of classics currently available. Quite a few in the Spyderco Taichung knives. Any ZT limited edition. And so forth...

The R.A.M is such an awesome knife - extremely smooth (Blade occasionally falls under its own weight as soon as it's out of the locking mechanism area.), easy to lock and unlock, etc. How does it hold up under use, though? Does it develop blade-play, does the lock hold up, etc?

No E.T. On your list? Classic G&G design, don't think it sold well.

Good one! I had one for a short while, on loan to me by 9blades (Kirby). Neat knife, wouldn't mind another.

Although I'm not a Spyderco fan myself (with a couple of exceptions) I think I'd start with a Lum Tanto. I mean, Bob Lum has passed away, so it's not like there are going to be any future collaborations with him.

His widow is in charge and has authorized the rerelease of some variants of past models.

Another couple to add to your list. Though these 3 were produced in large numbers, they are difficult to find, and when available, astronomically high prices:

Camillus Cuda Maxx 5.5 D2 Bowie
Camillus Cuda Dominator S30V Bowie blade
Buck Mayo TNT (Not as in demand, but very underated knife, IMHO)

Another one on my want list: BM 710 HS

Here's a few that I managed to snag when more readily available:
(Both Camillus knives above)
BM 730 CFHS
BM 760LFTi
Spyderco Ti Police Necklace
Kershaw Volt 3600 (gladly paid full retail @ $300)
Kershaw Tyrade Ti
Kershaw Offset Splash (not a practical EDC, but uber cool)
Kershaw Titanium Blue Bump
Kershaw Junkyard Dog II SG2 Titanium
Microtech LCC D/A
Microtech Tachyon
Spyderco Valloton Subhilt (Still in production, but a sleeper, if there ever was one. Get one NOW!)

I feel special, this is one I actually have. :p Wish I could help you with more of the others as well.

That is one of the coolest models I wish I had picked up when I had the chance. Why oh why did I not realize it till it was too late?

Fleabay is your friend. It's where I got mine. :)
