I can't narrow it down to the "top 2" but 2 of my favorite bands are Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Nirvana. I like Sonic Youth too, and Portishead.

My first child (daughter) was born 6 weeks early, and spent 3 weeks in the hospital, dying twice and being recussitated successfully. My wife was allowed to live in woman's resident, but I was not allowed to stay. Every night on my way home the local rock station would play 'Lonely Day' by System of a Down. The day we got to take her home, we put her in the car, I turned the car on and the song started playing- it is a very special song to us now. I got to see them play 4 days later and I'm not ashamed to say there were tears in my eyes. It was too soon for my wife to go, but luckily they came back 5 years later.
