The "I'm going to try making a knife..." thread!

Sounds like you're doing well! Things look good here dude.

My advice at this point; leave yourself spare material. I found myself, early on, not starting off with enough and as I formed the bevel ended up screwing up the blade and it became too short! Can always remove material, not so easy to put it back :P

Thanks! Yeah, I figure there's a thousand ways to screw this up, so I'm trying to leave as much margin for error as possible.

It's coming, but this weekend, this week and next weekend are tremendously busy! I'll post up some pics when I've made any notable progress, I promise! :D

^ yo we hear you. Knifemaking is time consuming and not for the impatient. Something I learned over the past year! Don't rush perfect and enjoy the upcoming holidays!

Yelling from the highest overpass in Stockton, SCOTT............. WHERE ARE YOU!!!!......... SCOTT!!! :D
So along the same lines as the Higonokami design. I was screwing around with some scrap in the shop a while ago and came up with this. It works surprisingly well. O1 blade , .08 or maybe .09 kydex handle and eyelets for a pivot.

Wouldn't ya know it? I ground the bevel on the wrong side of the blade.:D Because of the chisel grind it has kind of a nail nick ....kind of.
Scott if you are out there ,Give kydex a try for a temporary/ test handle for your project. It will give you a good idea if things are going to work the way you want to with your design, with out a lot of work or cost.

Yes, very cool! Nice work Kevin!

Rolf I tried a SSIK folder with a milled recess for the blade... will try again on the idea.
