  • Today marks the 24th anniversary of 9/11. I pray that this nation does not forget the loss of lives from this horrible event. Yesterday conservative commentator Charlie Kirk was murdered, and I worry about what is to come. Please love one another and your family in these trying times - Spark

The internet can sometimes be such a big waste of time....

There is a such thing as onlays…a case in point would be the Spyderco Centofante tribute knife. Just an FYI.

An onlay is a piece of material laid on top of the scale with no milling in the base handle material. Once there is milling for the piece of material to be set into, it becomes an inlay. :)

If anything they would be inlays and technically in the traditional knife world where the 110 falls they are traditionally known as " Covers ".
somehow the frame halves are actually scales?
He knows absolutely nothing about knives.
Heck, I might me slipping but I don't really remember the term "covers" being used until the last 10 years or so. Definitely a better term than "onlays". I still just call them scales but sometimes I aren't smart.

I think most of the technical type terms come from cutlers and maybe pre war catalogs, so many people didn't really know these terms until very seasoned collectors started sharing information with the masses on the internet.
