[BI hope however, that the handles do not darken with this knife, this is a problem that can and does happen with ironwood. Does anybody know if/how this can be prevented?[/B]

I think Jerry Hossom said it was exposure to light.

Mongo- the revolver is a run of the mill ruger vaquero bisely model in .44 mag, it could use ironwood grips :D. Does any one else have natural imperfections in the ironwood? Both of mine have some "charecter" I have a third on order and will use one of them- I really like the OVB. Should the ironwood be treated with anything in particular? and BTW I may be "odd" but I really like the way the knife nad sheath smell.....

I likes that Vaquero! So, you're going to get a third OVB?! I think you're taking this aroma thing a leeetle toooo far!:D I know what you mean though, I love the smell of Tuff-glide, leather, gunpowder, Hoppes solvent, and especially the smell of my oil finish Filson stuff. Always reminds me of Fall and hunting!
How do you like shooting the Vaquero? Is the kick managable? I really like the Ruger revolvers, I'm considering getting either a .22mag or .22LR for a basic plinking/small critter gun. May consider something with a little more ooomph though... .45 or .44mag would make for a heck of a plinker plus home safety too.
All in all, very nice.

mongo... from what little I have shot it it is nice. Ruger single sixes are nice- you can get them in a .22mag and lr convertable. for a little more oomph a .357 would be nice. .38's can be shot in them are cheaper to buy and reload and magnums can be used for more appropriate applications if needed. I like it although if you are not going to shoot cowboy action shooting I would get the adjustable sights!

Absolutely beautiful knife. I think the darkening issue with Ironwood is light exposure (UV oxidation) and to a lesser extent hand oil. I always use Rennaisance Wax on it, and someone suggested using ArmorAll as a good UV barrier and that makes good sense as well. Even if they darken a little, these knives will still be a good buy. Classic Fisk!
