The Kabar "unicorn" of BK2s

I have the Fiskars hatchet. It's great actually. I rotate through it, my kukri, and my knives when splitting firewood and such. I do that mostly for the experience and personal enjoyment. Actually, the Fiskars is next up in the rotation!

Wow, glad I saw this, been on the fence about one of these but didn't realize the tang part of the handle had cut out's, I don't like that at all, a means of weakness.

Hey, come on, its the BK2 we're talking about! No knife, no matter how thick, is invincible. Thats why we test them out, before we take them out. Likely a one in 10k crapper. Mr.Becker is a great guy and nice as can be, send that sucker in to him, ive no doubt he would help you out. He offered to send me a bk11 sheath out of kindness. Plus, kabar is a great company.

Ive seen the bk2 put through hell, and ive done just as crazy things with my 11. I tested my 2 out well, it ran the paces, laughed in my face, and asked for more.

The cut outs are not a weakness. My old bk11 split seasoned oak each winter for 3+ yrs, and out in the cold at that.it has cutouts. I beat that knife silly. Hell, I even beat it through a block of wood with a hammer, and was nutty enough to hit the tang from the side a couple times out of curiosity. If the 11 can take that..the 2 can sure can. The broken 2s were likely just a 1 in 10k lemon.

Lol and yes, ill take up for either kabar or mr.becker in a heartbeat ;-).

^^This. Common sense applies. Physics also applies. Don't design the weakest point of the knife to be at the very center, where the largest lever force will be applied.

They make the knife lighter.

Do they make the knife stronger or weaker than a solid handle? .
neither, they make it lighter

Common sense ask that the most force be applied to the blade or none at all.

Quick update. Kabar got my broken knife last Monday. Today, Mr. UPS guy delivered a new one. They didn't contact me or ask a single question. Kabar customer service +1.

Glad to hear that they took care of you. So far my only experience with Kabar customer service has been a good one (sent me a new sheath when my first one arrived broken). And for the record, I've worked my BK2 harder than anything else I have, and never once has it failed me.

This is probably the largest piece I've ever attacked with it (just about blade length, and all knotty), and it did just fine. And while I don't think I'll do that ever again (wayyyyy too much time and energy to split it), it was an educational experience for sure.
