  • Today marks the 24th anniversary of 9/11. I pray that this nation does not forget the loss of lives from this horrible event. Yesterday conservative commentator Charlie Kirk was murdered, and I worry about what is to come. Please love one another and your family in these trying times - Spark

I made it. A couple pair of old jeans, a can of fiberglass resin, and a hydraulic press. Cost me about $4

Outstanding work man. Made a hell of a knife.

Thanks. Im too tight to buy the aftermarket goodies...so I was forced to make em myself. I have less then 10 bucks in the Kydex sheath and less then 5 bucks in the Micarta. I think it would be hard to find a knife package like that for under $~90 :) which is what I have in it

Lookin good man, nice work!

How do those new scales feel? Do you plan on shaping them at all like the factory scales?

now I know why people pay for Micarta. This stuff feels great! I like a blocky grip, I'm leaving it that way, prefer it over the factory shape. I pretty much created ESEE Micarta grips for the BK9 LOL

dang man, you are going wide open with your mods huh?? Didn't you just get that thing?? Wow, I"m definitely motivated for sure.

Thats a damn fine looking blade Thrilly Billy!! Very nice work on the micarta. I'm always impressed by your photos. Keep up the good work!

Kydex

Is that the famous "Lost Foam Process" of Kydex forming? :D :D :D

yeah...ran around the shop/farm looking for foam to salvage for my press...This is what I found, some kinda gardening kneepad I cut in half. Apparently it's not 350degrees heatproof! Oh well, it all peeled off my kydex. :) still have zero dollars in the press LOL

Until a month or so ago, I'd never modded a knife other then 550-wrapping a handle or two...I wanna thank this forum and the fellow 'Heads for inspiring me. I know it aint perfect, but I'm just pleased I got something useable on my first attempt. I'd never even seen or handled Micarta until I made some LOL I have a couple Kydex holsters so I knew how great it is already.

Ya buddy, got me all tingly looking at all that! I'm headed out to the garage to play with my 9! OH YA!!!

Freakin' sweet! I can't wait until I try my batch! If you twist the jeans and let them set and dry like that, it makes a Damascus-type pattern; I would try it out next time you do a batch!

How did you countersink the holes for the hex nuts? That has been driving me crazy for a while!

Im all about variety...Im done with denim for awhile, next micarta is gonna be colored LOL

well...I just used the #10 countersink bit, then used a bit just exactly the size of the hex-nut to enlarge it...then hammered the nut in. LOL works!

Im gonna 2-ton epoxy it all together anyways...just giving it a trial run for awhile before I glue it, dont want to epoxy something I may not like in a week on my knife LOL

That's some Thrillbilly magic right there!

Keep us updated, I may do the same thing on my batch!
