Hey Guys,

The reason why i love this forum so much is that people are so helpful and knowledgable. I really like the concept of jack knives. Sure enough, jackknives are a fine breed with a loyal set of followers. Perhaps, I will be one as well soon enough. I got my eye on the Case Swell center jack, the 3 inch version.<== Feel free to advise on that. Ok, here is my question, what is your favorite jackknife and which jackknife do you find to be the most useful.
Free free to lay on the pics ;-)

God bless

I don't have any experience with one, but I have my eye on the case texas jack in CV. I got my brother one for his Bday, and I really liked it.

I'd have to say trapper or dogleg patterns for favorites.

Wharncliffe trapper and swayback jack (wharncliffe/pen combo) for most useful.

Is there a jackknife more widespread with a century reputation than a barlow?

But I have a soft spot for the two blade serpintine jack. Its sort of a classic in itself. For every barlow I saw growing up, I think I saw two or three two blade serpintines. Just about every knife company had some in their catalogue, and they were popular give aways with company names on them.

But I remember most, Mr. Van using one to carve and whittle his fancy napkin rings and neckerchief rings with one. He had the little pen blade honed like a exacto knife.

If you're talking about "jackknives" specifically -
my number one pick is the Schatt & Morgan F&W Deluxe English Jack.

If, on the other hand, you're referring to slipjoints in general, my favorite is the classic Texas Toothpick.
Single blade.

A teardrop jack is just sweet to look at and to hold. I especially like the ease of carry of a single blade, teardrop jack.

You are looking at a fine knife. Here is the Case Knife Outlet and I searched by "Jack".

That swell center jack feels good in your hand. I have a Texas Small Jack also, in addition to the swell center. It is a great knife, but a little too big. I was looking at a peanut, which is a small jack, and it felt a little too small. The swell centers feel just right.

Jacks are rock solid strong slippies for sure. There blades run parrellel whereas a stockman's blade or blades are off set. Barlows, trappers, and these smaller jack knives are good also. Peanuts even have a good following here. One guy skinned a gator with one.

Good luck. Below is "jack" searched. Many other knives are jacks, but these are some case calls jacks. You might want to look at their trappers and barlows too.

Never mind I couldn't get the link to work for Case Knife Outlet. You might try it and search "jack"./

You'll like the swell center if it fits your hand. If you like the swells blade configuration but want larger the Texas Small Jack is great, or smaller, the Peanut.

I have carried a Schrade 33OT Serpentine Jack that my wife gave me for over 20 years. Not much of the pen blade left and the blades do wobble a little bit, but it will always be favorite knife.

I got one for my father's Bday a couple of weeks ago; I wouldn't have minded keeping it for myself.

I have a hard time picking a favorite, or most useful because I enjoy all of the slipjoints I own. My favorite jackknife is an old swell end easy open Remington with brass handles. It has seen some honest use and sharpening but still walks and talks with the best of them. As for the most useful I am a fan of the Schrade 33OT. I also love my Case CV small Texas jack, but I prefer the thinner pen blade on the Schrade. And I have never met a Boker Barlow that I didn't like. Joe
