Dear mister Daron and other firends, I really appreciate You shared these pictures, James Schmidt is my favourite knifemaker and I searched photographs of his knives for long time... unfortunately I didn't know any REAL knife collector so I have to be happy only with pictures---:grumpy:
I think I will buy your books because it is a good chance to know real knifemaking art.
I think you will enjoy my books as they will open you
to the different aspects of modern custom knife art, with
much in-depth valuable information in addition to the
illustrations...
James Schmidt Is my favourite knifemaker at all. Any particular in his work is studied and calculated to make an artistic effectin its whole structure, resulting a really work of art. He left a huge footprint in modern custom knifemaking and anyone of us should thank him and remember. This is the reason i'm trying to make a reproduction (not a copy) of one of his masterpieces for my collection... but now, with all these new (for me)pictures I'm not sure about the model I will reproduce...
Here is a Jim Schmidt folder from 1994 named "Hand Candy". Jim truely is the father of many aspects displayed in custom art knives.
Damascus blade and bolsters. Black lip pearl with gold pins. The backspacer and liners are fully fileworked. Thumb disc is also gold with matching black lip pearl disc.
