The Knife Auction.com website

Those suggestions are a good way to help me verify things on ebay - thanks everyone.

Plus this sellers stock seems about 80% older knives.

It amazes me how fast you were able to determine this. He posted the same link on many forums but the reaction here was very hostile. I am still wondering how one link to an auction site (and not really active one) can hurt BFC. Again I do understand what is advertizing and IMO this was not the case....

It can't.

But, how many auction sites are there out there?

And if we allow auction sites to advertize here, why not dealer, and makers, and manufacturers too?

Pretty soon, the place gets buried in ads.

Last week was Pledge Week on Oregon Public Radio. The normally entertaining and informative content was diluted to the point of being almost lost by the begging. As soon as they started to beg, I'd punch the button and change to a different station. I don't want begging; that's not why I tuned in.

We want to keep the majority of bf.c commercial-free, just knife discussion pure and undiluted. Notice that there aren't even banner ads here!

Dealers (and others) can purchase a paid membership and then they can advertise in some areas of bf.c.

Although I know it was a reaction to the reception his post got, I think most of the animosity that tbark got was because of his second post, but this thread did definitely take a sudden turn for the worse.

There are many auction sites.. I know. But that post IMO was made because the biggest knife auction was down. Also IMO the actions taken agains Mr. Fisher (who I know) were too severe :(.

Yes, the owner of BFC can do whatever he wants - I know the answer.

Spark is not arbitrary. This rule has been in place for several years and has been very consistently applied. Notice that Spark himself doesn't even advertise his business here in this way!

How tempting it must be to Spark. His sole business, how he makes his fortune, is selling knives, www.1sks.com. He also owns by far and away the most popular knife discussion site on the whole internet! Any businessman would instantly see the golden opportunity here. And yet Spark does NOT plaster this place with 1sks ads. And he does not make lots of posts about 1sks just for the purpose of drumming up business. Instead, he pretty much applies the same rules even to himself that he fairly uniformly applies to everyone else.

And what does he get for that? I'll tell you what he gets: he get's people like you, Mr. David1967, making snide remarks about him. Fine thanks that is.

I got involved in this thread only because I know tbark. I said what I thought - that the actions against him were to severe. The link could have been removed by one of the moderators and the thread would die. Again - I think it was not an advertizing. The second tbark post was not really clever but if two words (crybaby and crappy) are enough to be banned - I do not know.... Do not get me wrong - I like this forum and I think it is the best knife related forum around - but in that case I thought Spark was a bit overreacting....

If he had said "what do you all think of this site?" then posted the URL, people would have looked. Had it been great, they would have said so, and if junk, that too. But he starts out with an apparent lie, claiming it's a great auction site, and it doesn't have poor quality stuff. Then he says a whole lot of nasty stuff beyond the two words you mention, while asking to be thrown off the site.

Sometimes you just have to give a guy what he asks for.

I frankly don't give a damn. He got what was coming to him.

This site has policies in place for a good reason. People want to test the limits? Fine, they can deal with the consequences. I'm not paying the bills so some moron can come here and advertise his competing site. If it wasn't for the paying members, this site would have shut down years ago.

Furthermore, David, you've been here for 4 years and you more than know better. You gave me arguments when we went to gold memberships, and even after that, lo and behold, you are still here. Heck, you even have your site advertised in your signature, but you don't see me banning you, or pressuring you to support the site you are advertising on.

So, how about you chill out yourself, k?
