I just joined yesterday so there's a ton of stuff that I need to learn I know. I looked for a new members thread but I couldn't find one. I'm sure there's one around here somewhere.
Anyway I stumbled upon this forum yesterday doing research on Kershaws and I saw a blur that I wanted that was for sale.
Of course it didn't take me long to realize that I couldn't private message anyone without a paid subscription here. I get that and I respect it.
To get around that I left a message on his profile page and said an "I'll take it" in his for sale thread.

https://www.bladeforums.com/threads/kershaw-blur-stonewashed-s30v.1595579/

Then a helpful gentleman posted that the knife was already sold.
I appreciate that he did that, but my question is how did he know it was sold? I'm still learning my way around this site and I know that things are different from forum to forum, but I didn't see anything that made that clear. Is there an icon that is slapping me in the face that i am overlooking that indicates an item is already sold? I want to continue looking but don't want to get interested in knives that are already sold.
Thanks for your help.

I would bet the guy that told you it was sold was the guy who bought it and the OP just hasn't updated the thread yet.

It looks like he knew it was sold because he may have bought it. He asked if it was available, I assume he PMd the guy after that. I don't really see anything that indicates that it's sold either. Often times the seller will edit their post afterwards to say it's sold.

Oh, I see he did ask if it was still for sale. I didn't even notice that. Sounds like mystery is solved. Thanks y'all!

or his wife could be Madame Zarra the fortune teller :)-but I would probably go with the previous answers
Welcome to the forum-be sure to read the forum and exchange rules if you haven't they can keep you out of trouble.

Ha, yeah I've learned my lesson in other forums about talking a lot in for sale threads, otherwise I might would have commented in it instead of started a new one.

The only ways you will know if it is sold are, if it is marked sold, locked, you see there is an I take it(still worth a shot trying or putting in a second), or someone tells you.
Some don't mark their items sold until they actually get the money. They have had buyers back out , and don't want to cut off interest until they are sure.

I thought about claiming another knife but didn't want to do that then have the OP in the other thread contact me with payment info. That would be just my luck

Also btw, welcome to the forum. The Exchange is awesome but so is the rest of the forum. Stick around and you might have some fun. :)

Hope you get the Blur you want.

Absolutely. I'm just now learning about the various steels used in knives. I used to not care about such, but the more I try to sharpen a knife or keep it sharp the more interested I get!

It seems that things are turning out fairly well. Now I think I would rather have a para 3
The only problem is nobody is selling any used ones. I guess that's a good sign since everybody wants to keep theirs. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Just keep an eye out on the exchange, I've bought knives that I didn't even think I wanted off of it because the knife caught my eye. PM3's pop up petty regularly on the exchange, I just saw a 204p model on there yesterday(for trade I think), so just stay vigilant.

Plus you can say you'll take it on the thread itself, or ask whatever questions you have.. Just don't say "Oh that's a nice knife, but it's too expensive, my brother has one just like it, I don't like those colors, hey Mom, I like your shoes", ect.

Asking the seller questions in the thread isn't what that rule is there for. Kudos for reading them, though! Lots of newer members skip right by 'em.

Oh no, I messed up and found out about the manix 2 lightweight

Nah get the pm2 over the manix. Just my preference. The manix is really wide in the pocket. It's a good knife but the pm2 reigns supreme in my book. The only time I carry the manix lw is when I'm mountain biking, mostly because it is super light, but also because I'd care a lot less if I lost it over my pm2.

Oh and have fun. Your about to get yourself into trouble buying every knife you can...I had to cut back...needed more money for guns, steelhead fishing gear and now mountain biking. Truth is I usually only rotate a handful of knives so most of mine dont get used so i made myself stop buying them. I still look and flirt with the idea a lot but I'm trying like hell not to buy...we'll see how long that lasts. Welcome to the forum.

The only reason why I am leaning more toward a manix is that I feel that the tip might be a little bit more durable. Maybe I'm overthinking it but that needle sharp tip of the pm-2 looks like it wants to break
