I was shuffling around some boxes on the garage tonight, you know to make it look like I organized things when I came across a box that read "Misc Stuff"
I found a bunch of old photos, cards, letters etc... All of a sudden I found the first knife I ever had. A bright orange Frost Cutlery "Flying Falcon". I found this knife under a fishing bridge some twenty years ago. I was trout fishing with my grandad and remember it well because it was the first time he let me go off by myself. When I did, I found my first knife.

"Walk and talk" doesn't even begin to describe this beauty.

Mine was a Swiss Army Knife of unknown pedigree. I almost chopped one of my fingers off with it when it folded on me, which should have taught me the value of knowing how to use a knife before actually cutting things with it. Unfortunately, at the time I thought this meant I needed a folder with a lock... Doh!

The first knife in general that started it all was the kitchen knife in my house that my family still uses today, though I wasn't sharpening it until about a year ago, so my grandpa ground so much off the edge that the bottom is like it was new but the front half is almost paring knife wide.
The folder that really started the hobby of knives was this Taiwan made aluminum knife partially serrated with a dragon on the handle, I had already known about Bladeforums at this point but bought it anyways and it was actually pretty awesome even as I remember, it was completely solid lockup, razor sharp(That didn't last) and it was so heavy I used it as a hammer several times. I lost it when I was being stupid and used it as a throwing knife and batoning because when I first started I was a wannabe hard user.

I was about 12 years old and found a little pen knife. Sabre brand. Beautiful MOTS scales. I was in love, and I carried it for years.
I still have it.

...and so it begins... I have a wooden 'sword' my mother carved as a kid in 1917, so I figure my blade addiction is in my genes.

Well, my first serious work knife was a Buck Cadet I purchased in 1987. But the knife that really got me started buying and wanting more was the Camillus Cuda EDC. That was the "hot" knife at the time I joined the forum, so I had to have one.

A SOG Trident was my very first knife that didn't come from a gas station and I used the hell out of it. Love that knife, but the one that really started my obsession was a Microtech Ultratech. I've still got it in fact. Such a great knife

A sog Aegis tanto I bought myself for my birthday. My family thought I was nuts for spending 50 bucks on a knife. Three months later I bought a recon 1 and that was it, I was hooked

For me, this was it. I bought three at the same time in 1977 at Danley's Drug Store in England, Arkansas, from a Case knife display. Western Auto, located next door, had Case knives, as well as some Schrades, but Danley's had the "Sunday go-to meeting" knives in stag, rather than the delrin and bone "users", and I had saved my money for some time to make the purchase, over $70 apiece at the time; one each for myself, my father, and grandfather for Father's day. We all carried them for years, and had a lot of good use from them up until my grandfather passed away.

My grandfather passed away at the age of 104 in 2007, and my father and myself both misplaced (lost) our parts of the trilogy within the year.

I contacted Mike Latham at CollectorKnives.net in 2008 and explained the situation, and he located two of the same pattern in mint condition, one of which I gave to my father on Father's Day the same year, keeping one for myself.

Mike has been my go-to guy ever since.

Thanks Mike!

My Grandfather bought me my first knife ~~ an Old Timer and I kept it sharp with an old wet Stone as my Pappy said if I ever find that knife dull I will take it away from you.! That is how I also learned that the only good knife was a sharp knife.!* Wish I still had it but through the years it kinda got lost in the shuffle.

I had a bunch of crap flea market knives way way way back in high school. Never carried them or anything.

This was my first REAL knife:
