The knife you carry when you know you're going to be using it...

Although I have many knives in my collection, and carry all of them, I always go back to my D2 Griptilian when I am in the woods or working on the house. My Grip is by no means a beater, but I use it freely without worrying about scratching it or it failing on me. The knife rides in the pocket like it belongs there, feels great in the hand and allows a great grip without abrasive texture like some G-10. The blade shape and length are great for utilitarian cutting (not slicing cheese or chopping wood). The D2 puts on a very fine edge with a simple fine ceramic stone, and holds a decent edge for a very long time. The lock is very smooth and strong. A Griptilian seems to stay in 100% usable shape forever because there are no fine details to break and nothing really to wear out. When I know I'm going to be doing work, I take the fancy stuff out of my pocket and use my Griptilian. What knife do you go to when you know you're going to use it hard?

Oh, yeah: The Fenix L2T is the "Griptilian" of the flashlight world. I have used that light for for 4 years (yup, it's a Luxeon III model which I swapped for a T-Binned Seoul P4). It may not be the brightest, nicest, or have any cool settings, but it shines forever, stays cool, and hasn't failed me yet! I leave my Surfires in the drawer and opt for a light that I have personally tested.

I usually carry my blur. Mostly because I already beat the crap out of it. I think it has exceptional grip and a pretty decent blade too. It is well built and of strong construction. Plus, I can take it tubing on the river since its aluminum and stainless. If I need to cut rope, wood, or wire, or shotgun a beer or stab a gator in the face, it is good to go.

folders: Any of my Enduras, Spydie Tenacious my BM Grip, or 710, Vic. Fieldmaster

Fixed: RAT RC4, Izula, KABAR USMC, Camp Knife, Becker BK11, BK2. (Think thats about all of um :))

I like to buy knives that perform to begin with, yes some I use harder than others but all have seen there fair share. Heavy cutting would go to my S90V millie and ZT 0300, and the one's that I will use for anything are, BM mini-rukus, composite JYD II, the ZT again, and a D4 wave.

Nice clip on the fenix.

Of what I currently own,

Folders: Delica (usually carry waved version), Vic Farmer/OHT, ZT0200

Fixed: BRKT Bravo-1, RAT RC-4, Izula, Mora Clipper or 510

I've been itching to buy a Mini-Griptilian or Griptilian though....it's getting so hard to resist scratching.... :D

I guess if I had to pick one, it'd be Delica for folders and Mora 510 for fixed.

Spyderco Military and a Strider SMF. Strider's for the non-knife stuff, Millie's for slicing and dicing.

If I anticipate some knife work, I team up my Vic Spirit multitool with a Bark River Mini Canadian. I have a neat pocket sheath that has slots for both. The Mini CDN has a Napoleon complex and works like a larger knife. The Spirit handles anything else that comes up when working around the house or yard.

One of the following two:
- Probably my Caly 3. It's perhaps the most universally practical edc knife in my 100 knives collection, and it's very strong and light.
- For more "dressed", often food-oriented applications I prefer a nice laguiole.

It depends on what I'm going to be doing.

Skinning critters:Buck 119 Special

Doing something that could possibly break my knife:Gerber Paraframe II since its cheap and won't hurt my feelings if I break it.

General stuff like cutting duct tape, insulation, cardboard, etc:Spyderco Native

Opening food packaging:Victorinox Super Tinker

For that I'll snap my spyderco street beat onto my belt.

As far as folders go, for really hard utilitarian work I'll bring along the spyderco salt 1 with serrated edge.

Hard work, 'gotta work or you are dead' knife, would be my CQC-10 Emerson.

Virtually anything else, S90V Millie, Emerson A-100, or an RSK Grip.

Spyderco S30V native. I need a new clip, but when I know that I'm going to be using it, that's what I take. And with out the clip, it's very slim and comfortable. Easy to get sharp, and holds it edge awhile. I also like the fact that it's made in the USA. Man, I love that knife:D

I bought a CQC10 recently from a forum member here, and it's amazing. I have no doubts about the ability of that knife.

The CQC10 is what reminds me of why I got back into knives.

thx - cpr

If I know I will be needing a knife I either grab my Strider SMF tanto or WP tanto.

I like the full-sized Manix. It's big and beefy and I can get it sharper than any other knife I own.
