The Knives You Just Can't Part With

I've only bought three of the forum knives. Only still own one, the 2016 knife. I rarely buy new slip joints or buy any knives I won't use. I've never carried, used, or sharpened this knife. I've contemplated carrying it but just can't. I've considered trading it or giving it away but just can't part with it either. Sadly, this may be unused when it comes time for my family to sort out what to do with my stuff. I really like this knife.

I generally hang on to all of my knives. All have been carried and most of them still see pocket time. They all have something that speaks to me. Something unique about the design and I carry them to remind myself of that feature.

Occasionally an exception comes up. My brother-in-law fell in love with a large Camillus-Remington and I gave it to him. But on the whole, the mound continues to grow, albeit more slowly than it has in the past.

Kids will just have to deal with it when I depart. It will likely not be one of their major concerns.

I understand your mindset, though don't share the same philosophy.

To me it would be a bit sad to habe a knife that I love more than any, yet have never used it.

Have you considered looking for another so you can save one and use one ?

I can't imagine buying a knife that I don't use. I'm not a good collector in that regard. That said, I don't get rid of knives that were given to me, unless the giver likes the idea of me giving a knife on to someone else. Gift knives carry memories of the giver, and that's something I want to hang on to. Most of the knives I own were given to me--even the ones I picked out were ones people paid for so that I could receive it as a gift rather than buy it for myself. I've bought more knives for myself recently, but, predictably, those are the ones I don't mind selling.

There are a couple of knives that were my father's, and one from my Nonno that will be passed on to my boys, and this one that will stay with me for the foreseeable future!
Oddly, I cannot find it today! I know it's in the house, but where, I don't know!
Perhaps it's hiding in protest because I am doing a long term Lambfoot tryout with Big'un!!

My first TC barlow, and first rendezvous souvenir.

purchased from ^^^, as he had heard how disappointed I was when I'd be missing an auction on a red soup bone because of the drive out.

Edit: Finishing the post as I needed to submit for position.

The three other barlows on the left all have special origins from way north ;) and will never leave. The red soup bone was sold to me by the late bigbiscuit a bit prior to his departure. These are some of the most important pieces of my collection and will never leave no matter what the price offered.

This one means a lot as well, as it was a gift from Bob. Its the one of the few that goes in the edc box because he wouldve wanted it that way. But its a knife I carry carefully as it would be irreplaceable.

This is a tough one, I have a lot of knives that would be hard to let go but I would for the right price however these three will never go anywhere. I obtained these TC's trading with Charlie and I have too much respect for him and love the knives far too much to ever consider letting them go.
As others stated a lot of times its not the knife but the people and memories associated with the knife.

Let me know when you're going to part with those knives! o_O:rolleyes::p;):D Nice knives, guys!

I have some knives from my grandfathers but they are of no interest to anyone but me. They have broken blades and wear from heavy use. I also enjoy some of the oldies that I've managed to collect and it would be difficult to replace them compared to a knife made present day. My Case Bose Norfolk and GEC Radio Knives are among my favorite present day knives. I often use a Schrade 8OT.

I tend to hang onto any knife that I like and use, but I especially won't get rid of anything sentimental such as these. A knife connected to my grandfather, and some gifts from forum friends.

My keepers no matter what are a Taylor's Eyewitness rams horn lambsfoot and a Trevor Ablett Barlow pruner, both gifts from my wife. I often use the pruner for yard work, and she always comments on how pleased she is that I often put it to work. Usually she asks why I don't often carry the rams horn knife, and I get to say "Well it's just too pretty, like you." She likes that.

My children and their children know that if they gift me a knife , someday it will again belong to them . Additionally , any knife gifted to me will be given back to the person who gifted it to me . Because of that , I have probably 50 to 60 knives that I would never part with because they are all very special to me .. I also have many other knives that are made of Unobtainium because I really do not mind having knives that I like that I do not carry . There are just too many that I would never get rid of to submit pictures of .

I try to use all of my knives, but have ended up with a few knives that are keepers but not carried. I really try to avoid the "safe queens" but I guess a few won't hurt me! Most of the collect but don't carry knives are Joseph Rodgers, my favorite vintage maker. Here is one of those aforementioned knives, a stag congress:

The one's I can't part with have two things in common: Superb snap and no wobble. Of my collection, there are probably a dozen that I will never sell - there are only a half dozen Case patterns that I have narrowed my taste down to & I am fortunate to have a couple really outstanding examples of each pattern (faves are 6107w; 6207w, 63032, 62032, 63090, Ratcliffe muskrat).

The TC i just recently got and have been after for a really long time and will not leave because it took so long to get and my favorite of the bunch ive had, the long pull clip was a gift from a great friend and i carry it everyday!

I have several knives that I probably won't part with for any number of reasons.

What I have been finding lately that I keep reaching for the same knife every morning. For what ever reason it seems to be the one in my pocket everyday. I may try a different knife but it seems to only last a day or two at most.

Odd?

Nope, not odd at all. I have 3 Case Bose knives and I love all 3 but I'm finding it harder and harder to not carry my ebony Cattle Knife. For me it is traditional EDC perfection. The others sneak in for a day or 2 here and there but this one is an absolute keeper!
