The Kumar Bishwakarma Special -- a real fighter.

Jim, I think I said this earlier, but for a fighter, I like a wood handle, so I can take down the diameter of the part behind the rings in mid-handle. My pinkie and ring finger then lock down behind the rings. If it starts as 7/8ths diameter right behind the rings, I take it down to 5/8ths.

And notice how in a thrust with these you automatically clamp down as you extend?

Namaskar Pala,

I think Rusty has hit the nail on the head. You don't need to be a salesman with us. We will buy your knives because we know what they are and what we want. I like the special order idea for those who might be interested in a rail commo khuk.

Namaste all!

I still cannot get my time adjusted. Now I am going to sleep at 8PM and arising at 4AM. I suppose the older one gets the more difficult it is to make the adjustment to the jet lag.

Mohdji, what you have described is not a lot different from a 20 inch Sirupati but I thank you for all your fine ideas and input.

Jimji, I am not yet prepared for orders of 500 pieces. But give me time. I am already looking to expand our facilities.

Mikeji, I am not a salesman but I am trying to learn something of sales from all of you, my most valued customers, and you are teaching me.

I consider Bill Jwai to be a good salesman. I asked him what were his secrets and he told me, "I have none. I show what we have to offer, tell the truth, and then the customer either buys or he doesn't." Somehow this sounds too simple to me but as I said I am not a salesman.

Thank you all again for your fine assistance.

For someone like Bill and for a product like yours, there is no need for secrets. Bill is selling the best knives anywhere to people who appreciate that quality. If he were selling rail common khukuris, he might need secrets, but here, we have folks like Cliff who loves to destroy knives and tell us all about the efforts. Your knives stand up to his abuse like no others. Between Bill and the users on this forum, your khukuris cannot fail to sell. Please keep up the quality and you will never have to worry about sales.

"I have none. I show what we have to offer, tell the truth, and then the customer either buys or he doesn't."

This is *exactly* what works best with quality goods, especially products that people bet their lives on. Especially when the "salesman" has an unmatched reputation for integrity.

Pala, I would suggest keeping Uncle Bill around

As Jim said it only works with quality goods. People needing "technique" or "secrets" to sell something generally are in need because the product is a waste of money. I have never tried to convince someone to buy one of my khukuris but that does not stop me from getting offers. Just show then the difference, usually in a fairly direct manner and human nature takes over. Getting them back is the problem.

I became interested in HI khukuris after seeing someone mention them on rec.knives. I then had a look at Bill's website and dropped him an email. What I thought was strange at the time was that never once did he actually say anything similar to "buy this, it is definately the knife for you". We exchanged a fair amount of emails describing what I wanted but Bill never made much of an effort to push anything at all.

Anyway, back to the Kumar Bishwakarma Special khukuri, this would be a great item to advertize as a trail/brush clearer. It would seem to be lighter/slimmer than a Sirupati and thus would excell on light vegetation.

Palaji.

After I reviewed my suggestion then only I realised that the suggested spec is actually belong to 20" Sirupati. You are correct.

Please confirm! - if the one Pakcik Bill mention in Yvsa's thread Favorite about 18" Baraba is actually this 18" Kumar Bishwakarma Special, that means I have log my name for it. Please do update Pakcik Bill's log for me.

Cliff.
I'm fully agree with you that this would be a great item as a trail/brush clearer ... lighter/slimmer than a Sirupati ... excell on light vegetation. Few years ago, I used to work in my late father's coconut plantation land - full of tall grass - I remember that we cut grass using a local thin & long machette named parang panjang (length about 30", maximum width 1 1/8", average spine thickness about 3/16", weight about 1lb). It was good for that purpose but I guess that parang panjang is not zone hardened - a slight mistake ie. impact on 2" diameter small tree - the one piece of blade will become two pieces!

Mohd: If I recall right, the 20" Sirupati's
are more like 1 & 3/4 lbs to 2 lbs. Some 20" Chainpuris night go 1 & 1/4 lbs or 1"=1 oz.

A 16 oz, 20" thing blade as you are proposing would sound perfect for light jungle. Jeff Randall might be the one to check it out.

I emailed Gelbu this AM and ordered six more but I don't think we have enough old files to make them. They may be made from spring steel. I am pleased to see the work of this young kami is well liked. But he will be more pleased than any of us.
