Legendary. Elegant. Workhorse.

There are those that contend that it is one of the best, if not THE best production folder ever manufactured.

Large Reg owners and users chime in as to why. . . What makes this folder so special that it beats out the others?

Here is some eye candy of mine (background objects are hand carved from places in Africa):

Everything! The handle feels your hand out more with the spine being convex instead of concave as the 21 in the 25 are.The blade has more belly to it and not like the blade shape better overall. And other than that I like it better than the others simply because the knife is 15 years old and still in new working condition.

My personal opinion is not that it is better than the 21 or Classic MM, but is a nice alternative. A couple features I like are the bull nose and scalloped lock bar cut out, which allows for different choke positions to the blade for better handling for a specific job.

Thanks for the input Peter. The blade shape on the Reg vs 21 is very similar in my eyes, but I don't have a large 21 to compare it to. It seems like the difference is mostly in the spine--the Reg drops at a later point than the 21 and as such it makes the blade a little taller--does that make sense?

Anyone have blade comparison pics between a large Reg and a Large 21?

I really like the scalloped cutouts on the lockbar--it is functional, but also looks very cool!

The thing I most like about the large Regular is the deep belly, which isn't found on the Classic or 21 (and isn't found on the small Regular, either).

I find that the sharper point is more useful for food preparation. I don't do a lot of skinning.

The large regular is the best because it's no longer made.

My very first CRK was a large regular righty that I bought while in Louisville for a wedding MANY years ago. I was hooked.

It went bye bye when I found a large lefty to replace it though. :)

I always thought the regulars were the best of the best but I'd be hard pressed to tell you that the 21s aren't just as good these days. I used to prefer the aesthetic of the regulars but don't think that's so much the case now. They're still good and cool but I'm just more used to carrying my lefty Starbenza every day and switching to a BG-42 or S30V regular just feels…foreign.

I also like the blade shape of the Reg. Do you have a Large 21 you could post some comparison shots to the Lare Reg blade?

Yes, we always seem to want what we can't have!

That's a good point.

Blades from a Classic/21, and Original (P), and Regular. All large sizes

Thank you for posting this.

It appears to me that the blade edges are nearly identical in shape, including the amount of belly they have. It also appears that it is the blade spine of the large Reg is ground down a bit less than the 21 giving the appearance of a taller blade height on the Reg as well as a pointier tip on the 21.

Does anyone else see the same thing?

Yes. The Regulars, especially from the earlier years, definitely have a more spearpoint-shaped blade, while the Classic/21 is more pointy. The Original Sebenza blades were sort of in-between.

Oddly, or perhaps purposefully, the Sebenza 25 blade shape the closest to the Original as I've seen in the modern versions. I don't have a picture of that comparison, but can probably put something together later.
