the last bits of winter

Well spring has sprung and there are crocuses in the yard but on a hike not far from home on Saturday I could see the last bits of winter holding on. I'm glad we decided to head out because we got to see some cool ice formations on a creek that fed into Irondequoit Bay on Lake Ontario. Nature has some cool and surprising details if you take the time to look for them.

No knife pics that day as my battery died shortly after taking these pics. Anyway I hope you enjoy.:)

Thanks. The ice had an amazing structure to it. Almost like it was grass or reeds frozen in place, only ice. I'd never seen it so pronounced as in the last pic.

I'm glad I got these pice too because my buddy's dog, a one year old blue Great Dane, was having fun romping through the ice and water with his enormous paws. I'll have to get pics of this gentle giant next time we go hiking. He's beautiful, although I could do without the foamy slobber he left on my coat. It looked like someone hit me with a paintbrush. Bleech.

Now that looks like a black fly stream if I ever did see one :D :D

Thin ice is always really cool!
