The Last Blade You'd Ever See Me Carry Is A.....

Its the sebenza for me too, I don't like a all Ti handle and I don't care how well its made its still Ti and S30V. And yes, I've handled CRK products and I'm not as impressed as the rest of you.

Dork oops, SOG, CRKT, United, Frost (not mora), taylor, Benchmade, or any PINK knife. You should loose your man card for carrying a pink knife.

Gerber Traverse. My son has one. It is the sh****st knife I've ever handled. It wouldn't even be the last blade I would be seen with because I wouldn't carry it.

Of course, all the cheap knockoff stuff.
Tacticool stuff, especially Dork Ops and the like. 99% of TOPS fall into this category :jerkit:
Anything over $200. (subject to change with rates of inflation) :foot:
Bayonets
Any knife designed "primarily for self-defense"
$50 knives that are being sold for $100+ :barf:
Striders

The last blade you'd ever see me carrying is a SAK. Sorry, just can't get into them. When I need a knife I like to have a single blade knife. When I need tools I like to have real tools. If I absolutely have to combine both in one then I'll carry a Leatherman.

3. Kershaw (not including ZT's which I MAY purchase someday depends)

All that complaining about the ZT0550 pivot, then they make it bigger, and now you're not sure about buying one?

There are quite a few folders that cost the same as a Sebenza and more. Any reason you picked it out? Just curious because I have no desire to own a Sebenza either.

Also, the way you worded that, it sounds like you would pay that much for a fixed blade. I have heard people say that before that they would spend so much on a fixed blade but not a folder. It just seems like a folder has a lot more components and requires a higher level of precision to make. A fixed blade for the most part is a hunk of steel with some handle material and isn't as sophisticated. Just wondering.

fair questions.

i'd balk at shelling out sebenza sized ca$h on any fixed blade shorter than, say, a wakizashi and i'd want a damn good waki for ~US$380 (list price for base model at a popular online knifestore).

and i picked the sebby because of it's cult following on these forums. i'd never heard of them before i started here.

i'm not bagging the quality of the sebby. no product would have the sebby's following if the knife itself was junk.

it's just that i have a very hard time justifying AUD$150-200 on a knife. US$380'ish (up to ~US$670  some people in this world have to get by for a whole year on less than that ) is almost wanton financial excess for me in my fiscal position. if i was as rich as creosote, yeh, i'd probably get both a Sebenza and a Lochsa.

the final reason is: i just flat out dislike single blade folding knives in general. i have a leatherman wave that fulfills all my edc folding blade desires. for the rest, i'll use a fixed blade thanks. if i find myself in need of a single blade folder, i'd probably go with a Victorinox of some description or even an Opinel.

Leatherman, Sog, CRKT, Cold Steel, Gerber,

All of the Frost, S&W, Taylor, new Schrade junk is not hardly worth mentioning. It just isnt going to happen.

They did make it bigger! SCORE! I'm going to complain more often then :D:D, kidding but man that is awesome.

But I got to hold the "real deal" XM-18 and now I must have one :)

I was referring though to a 300-301-302 series I was contemplating having the blade shape changed on them. Just don't know how much it will cost.

Benchmade Rukus - No offense to anyone who owns one because they are great knives but the first time I laid eyes on the Rukus I thought it was the ugliest production knife I had ever seen - I must admit it's odd look has grown on me a bit over time but not enough to actually buy one.

Spyderco Captain - A close second to the Rukus as far as looks. I'm a huge Spyderco fan and I can usually appreciate their quirky designs but they completely missed the boat on the Captain. (no pun intended :D)

A folding knife with a secondary lock, as with Benchmade's Axis Lock. Whether a liner lock, a lock back, etc. that primary lock should be enough to do the job. Me having to fuss with another lock just confuses my simple, reptilian brain. It also makes manipulation of the knife, if a one handed opener and closer, just a tad more complex. Which can be a problem when I'm hanging off a ladder.

Of the breed that LAWKS lock seems the easiest to engage but disengaging can sometimes be more work than it needs to be.

I also avoid most folders that the manufacturers have to spine whack or hang 600 pounds off of to convince me I should buy them.

i'm not sure i follow on the Axis lock bit. are you for or against them? the Axis knives i've had were by far the easiest knives to open and close one-handed

i have an older LAWKS knife that doesn't automatically engage, the ones that do, i don't think i'd buy. it's about the only M-16 type knife i'd buy from CRKT though.

anything cold steel, crkt, smith and wesson, HSN knives, Any chinese (except spyderco), sog, gerber, kershaw (until they quit with the bead blast finish), CRK, busse and strider (too expensive). I might think of some more later

1. Striders

2. Kershaws
3. Benchmade Mini Grip 556
4. SOG Mini Vulcan
5. Victorinox Soldier
6. Case Sodbuster Jr

To each his own, personally I have absolutely no reason to pay $500 for a pocket knife, mine fulfill their cutting tasks superbly and are completely replaceable if lost

And what's the general beef with SOG???? Mine is excellent, smooth fast, pretty affordable, and the design is one of the sickest tacticals I've yet seen.

$500? No so much

I paid, $175 for my Microtech Ultratech. $350 for my SMF, and if you watch the Rick hinderer forum you can get those for ~$400. Honestly though once you hold one of these, especially the XM-18 you'll pay $400 with a HUGE smile when you get it. CRKs are $300-350 ISH but it's true I won't pay that either.

I don't favor them. Nor their Rolling Lock. I do not care for them. Someone else can have them. I don't need them. I believe it was the prophet Elijah who said, "I need no gizmos on my blades!". Or at least it was the Elijah what I used to work with that said that. Much else other then a stud or a "Spydy" type hole seems un-needed and is an invitation for my simple self to cut myself.

It was an exaggeration no doubt. I can't say I've handled those blades but maybe I'd change my mind if I did. I really don't have the cash lying around though.
