The last gift I gave my grandfather

Great love story....

Indeed. My Dad's parents are treasures I will always cherish. Even though I only had 10 years with Grandad, I've had my whole life with Grandma.

I was able to spend some time with her when I was back home in Indiana last week. She is 94, having now lived 5 more years as a widow than she did as a bride. She is slowing down physically, but her mind and heart are as clear and beautiful as ever. Her wit is just as sharp, too. She makes me laugh every time we are together, and her deep love for me is one of those precious gifts that millions of dollars could never procure.

Doug, somehow I missed this post but what a beautiful story about a great man. I never knew either of my Grandfathers as they passed before I was born.

I was fortunate to hear about the great men they where but would've traded the stories just to know them...

I called mine peepaw I was the oldest grandchild and I guess maybe that's why we where closer than the rest of the crew. He died the day before my sixteenth birthday. Still miss him all the time. I may be biased but I have never met a man who worked harder, played longer, or cared for others, even those he didn't know, more than him. He left some big shoes to fill and I do my best to make him proud. Thanks for sharing your story, made me think of peepaw and smile.
