The late, GREAT Stan Fujisaka...

just looking through some old knife publications and came across a nice profile article on Fujisaka~san in Blade Magazine, September 1994 p.95-97, "Knife Paradise Never Felt So Good".

...dig it out if you got it...

I had the honour of dealing with the gentleman last fall. I wrote him a letter telling him how much I admired his knives, and asked if he would make me one. He was initially reluctant, citing health concerns, but eventually made a knife to my particular specifications.

Eventually, when the knife was ready, it was about six weeks "late", or past the date he had estimated. He insisted on reducing the price, and when he shipped it to me he included an enormous box of Macadamia nuts. The only reason I didn't tell this story earlier is because I felt he was largely retired, and I was afraid he would be pestered by people like me.

The knife opens and closed smooth as butter, and is currently at the top of my rotation.

I can't say I knew the man well, but in my experience he was a "gentleman" in every sense of the word.

I'm so sorry I missed out on the opportunity to own one of Stan's creations. Will be watching the secondary market to try and pick one up in honor of a terrific knife maker and wonderful man.

RIP Stan
