Hello everybody, :)

What are your opinions about the latest Ganzo Firebird knives with ball bearings and D2 steel like the FH11, FH12, FH13, FH21, FH31, FH41, FH51, FH61, FH71, FH81?

All your contributions are welcome ;)

I don't buy knives from thieves, so I think the same about them as I think about all other Ganzo models, if I'm looking for an inexpensive knife made in China there are a ridiculous number of high quality options that don't come with the ethical baggage that Ganzo does. CIVIVI and CJRB both seem to be doing pretty fantastic work at a very reasonable price point and I would much, much rather support them.

Hi and welcome to the forums.

As Insipid Moniker Insipid Moniker pointed out, Ganzo doesn't have the biggest fan club here at Bladeforums. They have a rep for stealing designs, making clones, etc which doesn't sit well with many of us.

If you have a price in mind for a new knife and some parameters (blade length, handle material, etc), we'd be happy to offer some suggestions.

Thank you for your comments.
I'm aware of the Ganzo reputation, but it seems that the Firebird FH series are not stolen designs, as stated by some people.
Can you confirm this?
I'm also sure that some people on this forum also do have some Ganzo knives, but they don't dare to speak about them here.

The brand is forever tainted as cloner scum. Doesn't really matter what they do going forward. Sorry.

To clarify, Ganzo as a company has a rep for stealing designs. I didn't mean that the Firebird series specifically are stolen designs.

I'm sure some people on this forum do have Ganzo knives.

In the end, it is your money, spend it however you want. I was just offering to come up with some other suggestions.

Firebird has stolen protech autos. Not sure if the OP has them listed. Doesn't really matter. Anything ganzo is poison.

The knives themselves are fine for the price ,IMO , but on this forum you won't get much love for the brand .

Best to not even bring it up . Can only lead to trouble and sorrow . :(

The knives themselves are not "fine". Several well respected members here have found issues with them. Trusting your fingers to a brand that doesn't mind stealing for profit is not a good idea.

I'm not trying to hate on people who buy Ganzos, but I think their dishonesty presents a strong practical, as well as ethical, argument not to deal with them. If they have no issues being dishonest about their designs, why would be assume it would stop there? Verifying the materials used in a knife is really very difficult and they have little reason not to lie. I would much rather support honest manufacturers not just because of their ethics, but because their reputation demands honesty when it comes to their products.

OP I would take the knife in your avatar over getting Every single knife offered by Ganzo.

Question:
Has anyone ever actually tried to contact Ganzo customer service?
Does it even exist?
I'm just curious.

Greetings!

I’m also not a fan of Ganzo, sorry bud. But if you’re looking for decent inexpensive knife choices, I’m sure a lot of knife bros here would be glad to help, including me. Just let us know. I have a couple of budget folders that can more than hold their own against pricier models.

Ganzo has copied designs and design elements from other companies. This has caused some people to become permanent and uncompromising haters. Personally, I think it is in poor taste to outright copy a design. Living in the places, cultures, and market environments that many of us do, where we can buy a Spyderco or a Benchmade, we may have a particular perspective. That perspective can make seeing an inexpensive Ganzo that looks like a Spyderco or Benchmade feel offensive or wrong. That's certainly reasonable based on that perspective. However, it does ignore some of the realities of both Chinese manufacturing and the global marketplace.

I think it's worth being sensitive to that. It's worth understanding how Chinese companies might get started, the history of OEM contracting, etc. (Knowing American Expats working in other sectors of Asian manufacturing, I've heard stories about name-brand garments, their knock-offs, and store-brand equivalents all being made in the same factories by the same workers one line over from each other.) I also think that it's worth recognizing that there is a sea of actual counterfeits with fake labels coming out of China. There are tons of knives with fake steel stamps. Both of those things are a hundred times worse in my opinion.

What matters to me is that Ganzo has started making their own designs. The FH series knives represent new designs, in decent materials for the price, often with good fit and finish for the price. That line continues to grow. They've also started a new line at the next quality tier up. That's good and I hope they keep going in that direction. As far as the few FH series knives I've owned, they've been pretty good for the price.
