  • Today marks the 24th anniversary of 9/11. I pray that this nation does not forget the loss of lives from this horrible event. Yesterday conservative commentator Charlie Kirk was murdered, and I worry about what is to come. Please love one another and your family in these trying times - Spark

The leather handle.

I had been eyeing one of the Case leather stacked knives for a bit. The M3 Finn..... anyone use one on white tail? How does it work? I guess it ought to be fine, as I used a Sod Buster on a buck a couple of years ago. Just looking for some feedback.

Carl, you are making my fun money account hurt.

Woodrow, I cleaned my first deer with a Case Finn just like the one pictured. It worked just fine After a little practice it worked even better

An oldie, but definitely a goodie, a very enjoyable read Carl, well-written as always too. I carried a small leather-handled sheath knife as a kid. Mine was a Sheffield-made 'Whittle-tang Bowie', as the Sheffield cutlers call them - though I think they pinched the design from the US! ;)

View attachment 470308This knife was my father's. It was purchased in Bradford PA. in the late thirties. As you indicated was the norm in your story, he had only one knife for hunting. This one has gone through a whole bunch of "whitetails". The approx. 1/16" thick blade is carbon and was originally nickle plated. She still has plenty of life left and is scary shaving sharp.

Definitely what I recall my Grandfather carrying. No clue as to brand, but I do recall a small leather handled fixed blade. Knowing his fondness for Case, that would be my guess.

So does anyone make a little finn type knife in a carbon steel today? Or do I need to go the vintage route?

I had use of this Case 365-5 SS last deer season as part of an AAPK pass-around. I only shot and cleaned one deer last season; I liked the knife - the leather grip was just a bit roughed up making it perfect once the knife was slick due to blood. I liked the shape of the blade, the stainless steel held a good edge while I cleaned, deboned, and processed the venison. The only reason I didn't buy one was the 5" blade length; over the years I have developed a preference for a deer skinning/cutting blade to be at least 3" and no more than 4". This knife would be perfect for game larger than whitetail. OH
