The leaving.

Thanks Carl,

Sometimes I wait to read your stories when I have a few quite moments. Always worth taking the time out of my day. Awesome read.

May I ask, who is the guy in the story?

It's my father going off to school. The year would have been about 1937 or so. I'd have to look through some family papers to be sure, but it was the first time any of his family had been apart from the time they had left Ireland to come here. Dad had never told me the whole story until one day we were sitting on the back porch, and we were just talking. By that time he was in his mid 60's, and he had loosened up a little about the past. Usually he never talked much about it. But then, dad wasn't much of a talker anyways. But I was bound and determined to pry the story out of him how he came to carry the peanut, and why he never stopped.
Carl.

Thanks for another fine read, Carl.

Carl I'm getting to think I'm almost a family friend and we've never even met. Pretty sure I've even read part of this story before. :) great to read the hole thing at once.

Carl, what a great story. You got the touch. I just love your stuff.

I think this is my favorite of all your stories, perhaps because it is personal for you. Now I can understand why he liked that peanut so much.

I'm late to the party but glad I came across your story Carl. I always look for your stories first thing when I get to the traditional forum---been busy the last few days so I was very happy to see this one that I had missed.

Great way to start my weekend!!!

Thank you!!!

Paul

Your stories never cease to impress and make me think. You write in a style that I can picture everything that's happening. Great as always.
Thanks Carl.
