The Les George Knives Thread

That would be pretty cool but the spine would have to change I think. Just playing with mine my thumb would kind of naturally fall right about where the jimping ends and spine dips down but I enjoy variety so I'd be curious to see what Les came up with if he decided to do something like that. I wouldn't be opposed to studs either and they would naturally fall on what is a nice flat area of the blade already...might be a good mod candidate for somebody who felt frisky enough to drill their blade.

edit: I've got a deal worked out to trade my Myna for this hand ground McNees. Looking forward to checking it out!

So how do you like that hand ground Mac? I love mine it is a slicing machine!

I have the Talos and the McNees PM 2.5 - I actually picked up the McNees because some of the design points reminded me of the Talos. lol

Here's my honest thoughts on the two, especially if you're considering dropping the Talos.

The McNees is a great looking knife with decent ergos. It's shorter than the Talos, and a bit more scrunched on the grip.

McNees is on bearings, and the Talos is PB washers. I much prefer washers on a thumb-stud knife, and the Talos is smooth as glass on them.

I...hate...the McNees jimping on the spine. It's sharp as hell - it makes my SHF feel like velvet. lol The lockbar is also stiffer than the Talos, and combined with the thinned edge, it's just not as comfortable and smooth as the Talos.

The working finish on the McNees blade looks like concrete. I'm not a huge fan. The grip on mine is absolutely gorgeous though. I love the swerve pattern, and it provides a really solid grip.

The detent on my McNees was too stiff. I had to adjust the lockbar to get it where I wanted it (no biggie - I've done this on a few LGs as well).

Summary:
I listed a lot of negatives, but the McNees is really a great knife (I'm just being picky for the sake of comparison)...I have no plans of ever getting rid of mine. The bronze / blue swerve grip pattern on mine is just a knockout. If I had to pick between the two, I would hands-down take the Talos. It's better in pretty much every category that matters to me.
That is one thing that I don’t particularly care about the mcnees is the acid wash on every blade. The hand ground version that I have is a favorite because it’s just stonewashed and is a sclicer because of the thin grind. I do like the working finish as well but I like to decide if that’s what I want also.

I like it a lot! My only complaint is that there's a decent sized flat at the tip that did not get apexed and it struggles when I need to pierce something before slicing. It was definitely still wearing the factory edge when it came to me so I'm confident it left McNees that way. Plastic clamshell packaging and similar are a struggle because of this. I've already sharpened it once and made it smaller but still not perfect, I was trying not to spend too much time in that area and have a larger bevel at the tip than everywhere else. I considered talking to McNees about sending it in but another sharpening or two should get rid of it and give it a nice point so I'll probably just handle it myself rather than sending it in to a maker who is busy with a new model and preparing for Blade Show.
