The lesson of the bear.

Thanks for that great story. I only wish that the majority of people felt that way.

that was a good one, filled with wisdom that the young generation these days just cant seem to embrace

Y'know, there was absolutely no call to go insulting all of us here under thirty. Just because this is in the traditional forum doesn't mean we need to relate everything back to how them young folks just don't get it like their granddaddies did. There have been bloodthirsty, unethical hunters in every generation, and there are plenty of hunters with respect for life in my generation. Sorry for posting off-topic, but I take comments like that personally. They don't fit in a forum as welcoming and pleasant as this one.

Like all of jackknife's stories, this one is poignant, wise, and an all-around great read. Thanks for posting it!

Thank you, Carl. I really enjoy reading all of your stories. :)
Merry Christmas, ahead of time...
Alex

Carl,
another great story, and another chance to get lifted from what we're doing and travel (in time and place) with your post.
Thank you!

There's an important moral to this story: "Besides, only a crazy person kills when he doesn't have to¨ Very true indeed and the land is the bear's and other creatures, not just man's. We are merely visitors here, not permanent fixtures, thus we must respect nature in its entirety and not abuse it.

That for me at least was the lesson of the bear, and very effectively written.

Thanks, Will
