The little girl's knife.

Great read! I am jealous. I love to see moments like this. We should all be so lucky to have had such grandparents.

One of the best stories I've read in a long time can't wait to give my daughter her first knife

Good story Carl. I assume that she's your grand daughter? Does she have a peanut yet?

Yes, that's my granddaughter, Briana. Bree for short. And I feel that there's going to be a peanut in her near future.

Edit to add; I think she's going to be a traditionalist. Her dad, Big John who acts like my minder, is a great guy, but his taste in knives leaves a bit to be desired. He usually doesn't carry a knife on him, but keeps a gun brand tactical in the console of his truck, and a big box store fillet knife in his tackle box. Knives are not gal high on his radar. But Bree, seems to love looking at and handling all the different texture handles on the traditionals. Wood, jigged bone, stag, all seem to have an appeal to her. Plus she see's her mom, my daughter Jess, using the little Vic classic that lives on her keyring in a leather sheath like mine that I made for her.

I think Bree may be the next generation of budding knife Knut.

Great story Carl. I am happy to hear that your taste in knives are appealing to your granddaughter. She sure looks happy with her catch. Thanks for sharing my friend.

You know, it's in the blood. ;)

Glad she landed that trout. Sometimes the young ones don't set the hook or really try to horse a fish in (like it is a permanent attachment to their line). I need to hit the river and do some fishing. Been procrastinating for two weeks.

Awesome story on an awesome day!
I appreciate the detailed filet instructions too!

Good one Carl. It's almost:thumbup::D like you were really there

Maybe a SAK first, those peanuts have been known to be biters.

That is pretty much a given. She loves her mom's SAK classic because of the scissors, so she will get one of those first. Then, I'm going to try to locate on the great bay, an other Remington Camillus made peanut. The camillus 'units seem to have an easier spring with less snap than the Case, plus it's what she knows I carry. She's very attuned to what is carried by whom, very bright little girl.

"Holy Crap" is an apt exclamation for that Trout. Your granddaughter is adorable, and her smile says it all.

Well told story too.

I'll keep an eye out. Hoping to go hunting after work for a peanut to be used as a template for a maker to craft my first custom peanut, might be some Camillus nuts out there she can use.
